SHELBY AMERICAN TURNS SHELBY GT500 "CODE RED" EXPERIMENTAL CAR INTO LIMITED PRODUCTION EDITION WITH UP TO 1,300 HORSEPOWER

Inspired by an experimental build in 2008 along side customers who wanted more performance from their already spectacular GT500, the CODE RED is designed to be the pinnacle of Shelby Mustangs. The GT500 CODE RED features a hand built twin turbocharged V8 pumping out up to 1,300 horsepower and 1,000 foot pounds of torque. In addition to the completely updated powertrain setup, each CODE RED Mustang receives suspension, cooling and aesthetic upgrades. The production run will be limited to 10 GT500s from each of the 2020-2022 production year, 30 units total.

For the first time in its history, Shelby has turned an experimental car into a limited edition production vehicle. Famous "EXP" experimental cars have included the Green Hornet, Little Red and the 2008 twin turbo CODE RED. Shelby's '67 GT500 Super Snake had a 427-race engine while the Green Hornet was an experimental '68 hardtop used to test fuel injection and independent rear suspension. The 1967 Little Red had twin superchargers and a host of other innovations.

In 2008, Shelby American replaced the supercharger of a GT500 with a pair of turbos on the experimental CODE RED Shelby GT500. The then 5.4-liter V8 re-engineered by Nelson's Racing Engines had a dual-feed fuel system that blended in high-octane racing gas as needed. Shelby enhanced the cooling capacity to handle the heat and worked with AMS to develop a speed-sensitive boost controller for the car. Along the way, the drive train was reworked and many performance improvements and features were added. However, the high cost of the car and its extreme nature made it not viable for production.

For the new production ready 2020-2022 CODE RED, Shelby worked closely with partners to develop a robust, powerful and reliable package. The 5.2L engine now features all-new high-performance components boosted by an intercooled premium twin turbo system, a new fuel system, engine management system and more. CODE RED boasts 1,000+ horsepower and 780-foot pounds of torque on 93 octane pump gas with up to 1,300 horsepower and 1,000-foot pounds of torque on E85 Ethanol.

The current generation GT500 CODE RED is far more than just a drivetrain upgrade. It features the widebody package with new wheels, tires, axles, suspension tuning, interior, badges, carbon fiber hood, and more. Each Shelby GT500 CODE RED includes membership in Team Shelby, the worldwide club Carroll Shelby established in 2008, and will be documented in the official Shelby Registry. The package MSRP starts at $209,995, not including the base car. Production has begun in Las Vegas and owners of 2020- 2022 model year Shelby GT500s can contact Shelby American about transforming their car into a CODE RED edition. For more information, visit https://www.shelby.com/en-us/Vehicles/Shelby-GT500-CODE-RED.

Please note: Vehicle is off-road only. Package voids all manufactures warranties. HP ratings based on use of 93-octane or E85 fuel. Shelby retains all take-off parts (carbon fiber track pack wheels returned to customer at customer's expense). Only 2022 MY vehicles receive 60th anniversary badging. Vehicle transportation is responsibility of the customer, FOB Las Vegas, Nevada. International customers should check for import restrictions.

It's badass to see Shelby American bring back the code red and after reading everything they did to the GT500 platform that car will be a missile. And yes it would be awesome to a see a 13/14 Shelby1000 go against the code red. I love seeing Shelby still bringing out monster HP cars.

That sure would be a good race to see @2011 gtcs . I wouldnt mind seeing this thing in action against a cobra jet or a 2021 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak. It would be entertaining. After all it is a off road race car.

@treynor? LOL. He's one of the few here who could actually afford it. The Code Red package is the real deal. Albeit an expensive real deal. Dodge touting the electric Charger Daytona and SAI touting this ICEy BEAST.

Fathouse is the best, just YouTube some of their cars at the track.

Shoot they're the only shop that made the gt350 get out of its own way.

These will be sick for sure.

If it were street legal, that would be an entertaining way to turn rear tires into smoke. I'm less sure what the use case is with it being offroad only. It doesn't have the suspension or safety systems of a CobraJet (which, even in my 2014, was making >1000HP) and you can't use that level of power on the racetrack without a chassis to match.

All that said, it would be a badass way to win dyno day.

The vin stays with the car after the build just like the shelby 1000 @treynor . States were there is no emissions testing like michigan it can be registered as a standard 2022 GT500. Its not recognized by the state as a code red GT500, SAI does not report this to the gov. What this does is enable shelby to build this type of cars but its up to the owner to use as off road because its not legal. It clears the legalities for shelby. But if nobody is checking it just slips thru states that dont have emissions testing.

While that may technically be possible, an owner would be exposing themselves to significant civil and legal liability IF something were to happen on public roads. And if you have $300K to spend on a car like this, that could add up real quick.

Actually worse than that @GTSpartan . Direct violation of the clean air act. Federal offense if caught on the street!! Fines up the gazoo and posible jail time. Oh yea Not to mention confiscation of the car. But ppl will risk it guaranteed!

Ehh, maybe.

SAI is no where near the company they once were. The namesake has been dead for 10 yrs, and most of the build is just outsourced anyway, so nothing necessarily "Shelby" unique, other than some badges and plaques for $300K. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't even end up getting 30 takers.

Sounds like you have no idea what's going on at SAI. They're stronger now than they've ever been.
