So I've been golfing for many years. I use to golf left handed and probably 12-13 years ago I started golfing right handed.

My wife is a pretty good golfer, she even played in highschool. She basically kicks my ass all the time....in golf that is.

We probably golf 8-10 times a month. I finally set-up a session for custom fitted golf clubs in a couple weeks.

I've talked about doing this for a couple years and I think it's time. As my ultimate goal is to improve. I'm a high handicapper...

I currently have cobra Fly-Z XL irons and hybrids. Driver is a Callaway Fusion.

I plan on getting fitted for a driver as well. But lately I've hit it pretty good.

So has anyone else got custom fitted for golf clubs?

I figured we might as well start a svtp golf thread!

That should be a nice improvement for your game, Brady. From what I understand, this is the process.

The Club Fitting Process

  • Your Club Fitting begins by hitting your current clubs to measure typical distances and shot dispersion to determine your needs.
  • Your Certified Club Fitter will assemble different club and shaft combinations to match your swing specifications, then you'll hit those while your Club Fitter compares and explains measurable results versus your current equipment.
  • After determining the best clubs for your game, we can order your custom clubs built to your exact specifications immediately from the manufacturer.
  • Your clubs will be delivered back to your Fitter to inspect and ensure the perfect fit. You'll come in to verify your club performance and take them on the course!

What is their fee? Around $125, plus the custom fit clubs?

I have been fitted. It's a simple process but the quality of your fitting relies heavily on the experience of your fitter.

Stay away from places like golf galaxy, they are a joke. I highly recommend going to a course with a good fitting center or something like Ifit.

If during your fitting you start magically gained 30-40 yards over your old clubs but the tracking program shows no massive differences in swing speed or hit location you're being lied to.

What has happened is the fitter has fiddled with the program to add distance.

Now I am not saying the clubs you hit won't add distance but you will not gain 30 or 40 magical yards unless your old clubs were complete garbage which they are not.

This is always the first red flag about a fitter that pops up when I hear loud mouth jackasses with banana slices talking about their fitting on the range. It's always the same BS that the gained massive distance with their new clubs. Stay away from those fitters.

What you should be looking for in a fitting is more consistency in your ball striking and shot shape. That is what a real fitting is supposed to accomplish.

I highly recommend you spend some time on the range with some sort of tracking system. Doesn't matter if it's track man or the new top golf stuff. Learn your distances for every club, you should already know your shot shape. Take some impact stickers with your too to find out where you strike the ball.

A lot of golf course are installing this stuff now so it shouldn't be hard to find one. Some places also offer simulator time.

Lastly swing different weight shafts. Depending on your swing they can make massive differences in how hard or easy it is to swing the club on plane. I for example like light shafts and currently have 90 gram KBS stiff flex shafts for example.

Lastly if you feel you're being lied to don't he afraid to walk away and ask for your money back. Magically hitting a driver 350 with a 105 mph swing speed? Walk.

I played for years, but haven't in over 2 now since the covid crap. I was pretty much mid 80's on a normal course.

I had a set of Ping irons and wanted to get a new set. Coincidentally, the course by my house had a Ping fitting so I went. He measured my hand height when standing and came up with the shaft angle to the hosel and then the overall shaft length which for me was an extra inch. Overall it was nice to get them fitted and I play better with them. It's definitely worth it if you play that much.

Golf at least Once a week, I take July and August off because of the heat. Play with Taylormade irons and Callaway driver, Adams Hybrid for my second shot, Ping Putter. Never thought about getting fitted, probably a good idea.

The last time I played golf, all the ice for my beer melted in the non-insulated bag. This caused the handles to basically fall apart in my hand when I swung.

About 4 holes in my hands were almost solid black.

Good times.

I play and have been fitted three different times. It's amazing how different your 'fit' is by who's running the machine.

It's worth it, but only if you have played enough to be CONSISTENT.

and Odyssey putter....

My son is going to try to qualify for a couple of Long Drive Competitions next season....

How far can he hit it? I've always felt pretty confident about my drives, but I did a competition once and got embarrassed haha

Depending on conditions he averages about 350-360.....Plays for his college team and has had quite a few coaches who think he could do very well in some of those tournaments....."He certainly didn't get it from me"lol.......

That's where I'm at. I average 340-350.

The one I did, I got 7th out 13. The guys ahead of me out drove me 35-60 yards.

Pretty avid I would guess. I just recently got fitted and switched to Callaway Mavrik Pro's. And just picked up a PXG driver in 9* and a 3 wood.

Handicap is a 4.3 but I enjoy playing in general. Never had a personal lesson except when I picked up clubs at the age of 8, pretty much self taught. I've watched Rick Shiels and Peter Finch on youtube to try and learn a few things and have had some success. Really just a mental game and dissecting the golf course to play into the yardages and clubs I like.

I really envy the long ball hitters ^^^^ I am usually consistent for a 280-300 yd drive. But I seem to swing 3 wood off of the tee more often than the driver.

280-300 straight is better than 90% of the guys who play haha

You are not kidding but man seeing a ball just take flight and hang in the air for what feels like minutes is something of a beauty. Longest I've had was 434 and that was at elevation in Vail.

I love playing in Colorado. We go out and stay at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs at least once every other year and play their courses. It's amazing how far a ball will go, and even more amazing to see the putts break with the mountains haha

Some very solid advice!

I had one lesson to correct by back swing. He also works at my golf course. I asked about fitted clubs and he recommended a fitter at 2nd Swing in Minneapolis.

So we'll see how it goes.

Used to play a lot when I lived back east but when I moved out here to Vegas I thought the courses sucked. Narrow, not many trees, little water. Boring. I did buy a new set of Taylormade woods and irons a couple years ago. Have gone to the driving range frequently. I'm moving back east next year so I look forward to playing again. I was never that great though.

Awesome .

I'm not the best, but it definitely is fun! I generally have one or two bad holes that always ruin my score.

Sometimes it's a love/hate game for me. I recently had a very short back swing. One lesson and I pretty much got that corrected.

My swing speed went from 80-85 to 95-101!
