Been with Lexus since 2006- present. Every single one of those chrome wheels was an aftermarket chroming company sourcing factory wheel cores with participating dealers and doing a shit job on stripping and prep. they would buy 10 sets of each new wheel and as the cars came off the truck, they would automatically get a repair order written for chrome wheel swap.

Every single one eventually had leaking beads, bead corrosion, piss poor chrome quality and could not stay balanced for longer than a few weeks.

I can assure you, with all the headaches those damn things caused, they were NOT factory and Lexus, a division of Toyota Motor Sales USA, did not warranty them. The selling dealer typically had to eat any and all costs relating to the poor wheel performance.

I made a good chunk of money on performing the chrome wheel swaps. The product I installed was shit.

Yes you can have them stripped and polished. Then you'll have polished aluminum wheels and the maintenance that goes with it. You could get them clear coated like most factory aluminum wheels, but that coating can eventually fade as well. I had my factory Ford wheels stripped and polished and its hard to keep up with. I'll get them redone and clear coated eventually.

Mercedes was the same way. I worked at a Sears Tire and when i would balance the Mercedes chrome wheels the chrome plating would come off in my hand when I took off the old wheel weights. This was on late 90s early 00s models so not sure what changed since going to Ford in 2007.

How did you go about stripping them? Or whoever you had do it.

Aircraft paint stripper with some steel wool will remove damn near any kind of coating.

Lots and lots of sanding, but they were not chrome plated to start with.
