Are gasket cleaners safe on aluminum?

I was going to sand the left overs off, but the heads surface aren't that dirty it seems really easy to get it off. Are gasket removers generally safe on aluminum? I read somewhere some of them turn the surface black and starts to eat through it.

I found the crc cleaner and the guy at napa told me it's all petroleum based and there's nothing to worry about.

I would think you are fine. It takes alot to corrode Aluminum. Now Magnesium is a different story.

You should be fine. I used several different cleaners on some aluminum Edelbrock heads I use to have.
