just curious because i have the same one.....why the white marks? i understand they are to line it up, but what for? i didn't do this when i installed mine...

It is called torque striping. It is an easy way to visually see if a nut or bolt has slipped after it has been tightened down. I do it on some things like that hard to get to after installed. Just white marker that can be scraped off.
