I agree, I'm thinking theyre done for a while.

On the other hand if they did revive another boss nameplate, I think it would be the 351 as thats closer to the displacement of the current 5.8 in the 13 GT500. A n/a 525-550horsepower 5.8L would be sweet.

Yes that is my thinking also a Boss 351 with the 5.8L & it would be natural aspriate unit no supercharger not too compete with the Shelby GT500 like in the 69/70 era.
this would be a nice unit for Ford too produce & would make Sales go even more for the mustang.
I ordered a 2014 Shelby on 11/31/12 ,but I really wanted the boss 351 or even the 429 but no such animal so that's why I ordered the 2014 model before we loose the big HP like in the early 70s.Just my thinking 7 could be wrong.

The current 5.0 can be made into a 5.8 fairly easily. 5.8 is my call for the motor.

Not using a 5.0 based motor I don't think. Now if you're talking about using the taller deck height 5.4 based 5.8 from the new GT500 then maybe, but while the new 5.0's share some similarities and the basic footprint of a old 4.6 it is also a very different motor(coolant passages, etc, etc) whereas the taller block 5.8 is very much old school Triton Modular based and is very different than the new Coyote/Roadrunner motors.

One can only dream!
Ford has an engine that could go out to 429 cu in about 7.2 L if they wanted to.
4 valve ,quad cams,NA
If they build it I might have to sell my 69 to get one. Not!

Hells yeah!

Ford would need to make it a all aluminum motor though seeing as how the new Boss 6.2 found in the Raptors, premium F150 models, and SD trucks uses a iron block.

Also I don't necessary think they even have to go with bigger 4v heads. The Boss 6.2's 2v heads flow leaps and bounds better than the old 2v Modular heads even in OEM truck motor forum. I feel sure Ford could improve on it's stock heads that already flow well by quite a bit.

Also remember, Ford NEVER comes out with a special edition model in the first year of a new body/chassis.

With the '14 order guides out, and the 2015 being the redesign, we won't see a special edition car till the 2016 model year.

Although that doesn't mean they can't come out with something next April 17, 2014. Maybe a 2014.5 50th anniversary car ? :coolman:

Boss 429 or 351

Yes the Boss in 1969 & 1970 was a Boss 302,& the big Boy was a BOSS 429.
There wasn't a Boss 351 in those two years.
1971 was the Mustang Body Change & that year only was a Boss 351.
If I remember correct plese correct me if I'm wrong.
Back then in 1969 I had a Thunderbird with a 429 -4 barell carbuator. Man was that a beast .Wish i had bought a Boss 429 now back then & not the Bird.
But Daddy was paying then & came home with the Bird still not bad.

One thing to remember is the GT500 5.8 will not fit in the '15 mustang chassis according to the info out in mags.... So I think all performance mustangs in to future will be coyote based. Also the ecoboost v6 turbo will be used. Might make a good SVO model......

Suprised no one has mentioned the Mach1 coming back! Been a while (03-04) since we saw a refresh of that namesake.
(and we own one! ;) )

If they stay true to the Boss history, I don't think there is enough money in a one year only Boss 351 to make it worth their while to do it. Not to mention that the Boss 351 has a much smaller following than the 302 or 429 cars. There really wasn't anything special about those cars, like the racing history that made the 302 a special piece. A Boss 429 is completely out of the question. With ever tighter CAFE ratings coming down the pike, the trend will be to smaller more efficient engines. The next gen cars could be the last ones you see with a V8, or worse, the last gen of the Mustang altogether.

I agree maybe the beginning of the end of High Performance cars with big HP for better Fuel mileage.
If you lived in the 1970's you know exactly what I'm saying.
By By too Big HP engines & hello smaller engines with better Fuel mileage.
But some of these smaller engines can gain high out put reves for descent HP.
Only time will let us know this.
I pray that this does not happen like i've seen in 1971 era!!!.
Just my 2-cents worth.
