Built engine time.

I purchased a set of 2004 Cobra valve covers. I plan to blend the 2013 and 2004 valve covers to clear the EGR and put the PCV ports in the factory position. Is the 10MM kit from L&M good enough as is? $650. Would you recommend the billet guides too? Anything else? I plan on running a Kenne Bell 3.2 at 850 crank HP. Just want to Rev safely to 7000 RPM. I’m in California and want to keep it smog legal while achieving the highest safe horse power possible.

Valve cover differences can be seen with some regular google pics when on the ‘03-04 Cobra, ‘05-06 GT and ‘07-12 GT500.
Basically the Cobra/GT500 is opposite just like the TB/CAI side which then means oil fill is passenger on GT500 and driver side on Cobra.
Welding on AN bungs is the easiest solution to run catch cans and fill thru AN fitting (go -16 or -20).
I still run stock ‘13-14 8mm primary chains but once you start pushing over 1000hp the 10mm primary chains are a good investment.
I’m not worried at 1100rwhp but whenever a refresh happens I’ll upgrade the primary chains (as well as other upgrades).

I'm with you on the 8mm chain setup, with all the correct parts the 8mm primary chain can take 1200whp or more. Hell Lund Sr's personal 14 GT500 that makes 1250whp all day still runs the 8mm primary chain.

I guess what needs to be found out is how often does he really drive it hard.

I know it's on the dyno a lot, not exactly sure why. But it just made 1268whp.

Thats true ,my whole thing about this is,If you drive it like you stole it,to me,im going with the FORD GT Timing kit with the 10mm chain.If you drive it once a month or so,and never do over 150,i dont see where the 8mm chain will be a problem.

I wouldn't say I drive mine like I stole it, but I'll do a few WOT pulls every time I take her out and it's been 170+mph a couple times at the 1/2 mile. I think the 10mm kit is a good investment and good for some extra insurance especially if you hit the rev limiter. But it's not an absolute necessity.

I think the route you're going with your built engine you'll be able to do that with confidence. Just upgrade the necessary timing components.

I do and until belt alignment issues and factory tuning BS these last 3yrs it’s been rock solid with the stock primaries, just like Lund.
I’ll probably upgrade the next round but it’s not absolutely necessary.

The engine Currently has 2,200 miles on it, still running strong as could be. I'm now pulled down to a 2.4 upper and 10% lower and switched to a JLT155 intake running Sunoco 100 fuel. Lund racing is getting this setup dialed in, hopefully at the next 1/2 mile she'll pass 175mph

Still haven't been on the dyno but after my final WOT logs with Lund I'm going to ask what he thinks I'm at. He's usually pretty close with looking at load. I'm now seeing 22+psi with this pulley setup, so maybe I'll be close to 950whp on race gas and if I ever switch back to E85 I might finally get close to 1000whp.

Always wanted to upgrade to the Shelby logo Samco coolant hose kit. I still have to install the intercooler hose kit as well, but I'll do that when I change the heat exchanger. Either way I'm happy how it turned out.
