For those worried about the color red or the color blue; you'll need to worry about who is in the oval office. The consensus is that CARB regs are due to hit nationwide by 2024.

You're full of shit. First of all, do you have any idea how much of the country has literally NO emissions/smog, etc. checks AT ALL. On top of that, are you aware the EPA is currently in the approval stages of letting the last handful of remaining counties in TN with annual emissions testing, no longer require it? Therefore the entire state will be without emissions testing, no smog test, nobody looking at your car, nobody plugging in an OBD2 reader. How in the hell do you figure CARB is going to be implemented if nobody is even looking at the cars? LMFAO

If you're simply talking about aftermarket parts being MADE and SOLD, then yes, maybe that becomes more of an issue as companies won't feel safe sending their shit anywhere in the country. However, there are hundreds of thousands of aftermarket parts out in the wild. So until all that shit gets thrown away, it's not going away. Also I stick with older cars that have parts aplenty. If you're trying to mod a MY 2022, then you may start having issues, but people just need to accept modding slightly older cars is going to be much easier at this point.

My cars are both modded how I want them, tuned, and that's that. I guess this is an issue for people going forward that don't have what they want yet, but times change, and this isn't that big of a deal except for in CARB states, which is like 10 of them, and ONLY in the Counties that actually do an emissions check. For instance, MD is on the CARB bandwagon, but certain counties don't do emissions checks after the initial purchase... so it's basically irrelevant.

Lastly, there's absolutely nothing on the first 2 pages of a Google search claiming what your "consensus" is, other than NEW vehciles, model year 2024, needing to meet even more stringent California bullshit.

Interesting you start a reply with "full of shit" and then go on to spew a bunch of broad statements. There are only 7 states left with zero emissions testing, and the rest are only smog exempt in mostly low traffic areas. Arizona is a good example of a state that's starting to become hard to stay smog exempt in unless you're retired or simply don't conduct business in the city. I hope none of it is retroactive for anyone, but the ECU crap will spread like wildfire, mark my words. Folks who care enough will need to reg or move into those states/counties to boast the ability to duck this.

The rumor is sparked by folks that were part of:
https://www.arb.ca.gov/lists/com-attach/8-hdomnibus2020-1jACGvmafqDgElXk.pdf

It's at "rumor" stages at the moment, but the buzz between folks is that this is kicking off further synergy between CARB goals and EPA goals. Doesn't help that we have a lib who is intent on turning the EPA into a meat grinder for this kind of stuff. Of course folks will resist, the question will be if they'll be successful and how much effort they'll put into it considering it affects a niche of folks (us) and we don't have a rich lobby to advocate for us.

State of Washington, which uses the same emissions requirements as California is doing away with all smog testing. It has been proven that cars are not the main contributors to emissions, in fact, cars rate near the bottom of the list. The number of vehicles failing a smog check has decreased to a point so low, that the cost of running the emissions test centers is not viable. I expect this trend to continue. There simply are not enough polluting cars on the roads anymore to make smog checks a requirement.

California won't follow suit unless forced to. It makes them to much money.

I would literally cry tears of joy if this happened in CA.

You can live in a tent on the sidewalk, piss and shit on the street like a dog, shoot up heroin in a kiddie playground, rape and steal at will with no consequences..... However if you tune your car, then you are public enemy #1. Did you all know Larry Elder is running for governor? This would be a gift from god to you in CA if he wins.
all while getting $2k a month for free .....

The continued rollout of over the air update capable cars by the OEM's will have a larger impact on tuning that what the state's are doing. The levels of encryption will get ridiculous and the potential liability too great, to the point that all but a very, very small % of people will even try to mess with it.
