I need to smog my 04 gt and for the life of me I can’t get the catalyst monitor to set. All the others are setting perfectly fine but this one refuses. I have no check engine light or codes, catalytic converters installed and I’m on a stock tune and it passed smog every time when I used to drive it, but I made the mistake of letting my battery die so all the monitors reset. Anyone have tips on how to set it? I’ve tried all the drive cycles it says to do but I’m having no luck.

Have you done the ford drive cycle?

It can be a bit of a pain to complete but I've gotten all my monitors set in about an hour.

I could have done it faster but I was in a time crunch and had to do it during the day with other cars on the road.

Drive the car early in the morning preferably on a weekend because you have to hold certain speeds for specific times.

You have to drive the car a bit and the monitor will reset. Had the same problem when I had the battery out of the car last winter. I think it was 50 miles or so.

Not sure about commiefornia, but in MA, we are allowed to have one sensor "not ready" when we are up for a new inspection.

I attempted to do the drive cycle but apparently it wasn’t good enough haha. I’ll try again, thanks

Do you mean the evap monitor test?

1. I would use a code reader to clear any codes and start fresh. (These code readers are great)

2. Start your car and let it idle for five minutes with the heater on.

3. Making sure you have no less than 3/4 tank of gas take a short freeway ride maintaining no less than 60 mph. Just jump in the slow lane and maintain 60 mph for about 10-15 miles.

4. Upon return, let you car again idle for 5 minutes with the heater running and then tuck your car away overnight so the tests run.

5. Next day, take a few short trips around town where you stop and go.

6. Check your code reader for the ready status.

This works for me.

If you are running high flow cats they may not be removing enough contaminates to make the sensors ready.

I have since sold the car but I'll save this for later. Thank you :)
