Clutch time

So I'm pretty sure my clutch is on the way out. I don't feel it slipping, but I can smell clutch on every downshift and every time I'm getting on the gas, so I feel like it is only a matter of time. I upgraded my 2010's clutch to a 2013-14 clutch in 2015 or so, and have been incredibly happy with the OEM feel. However, since 2015 I have upped my power (665 RW) and feel like that may be why the clutch has started to go earlier than it should (lasted about 40k miles or so). The OEM clutch is still available, but I'm thinking that spending the extra cash to upgrade should get me a clutch that lasts longer. 7 years ago, the McLeod RXT was the way to go. Now I see lethal has their own along with other manufacturers. Anyone tried anything else for an extended period of time?

My priorities for replacement are 1) OEM feel 2) Ability to handle my HP/TQ levels 3) last longer than 40k miles.

Suggestions?

follow up question: as the flywheel has only 40k miles on it, as the 2013-14 clutch came with the flywheel when I installed it, does the flywheel need changed out when going to a McLeod? The listing on lethalperformance show the RXT as a clutch only, no flywheel.

I’m glad you made this thread I’m in a similar boat and would like to know as well! :)

Flywheel should probably be resurfaced and balanced. Then the Pressure plate and flywheel balanced as a set. Much easier to buy everything as a set. The great thing is McLeod will rebuild it for less than a new one next time.

Issue with this is then the cost of a set from McLeod is double that of the Ford OEM. Cost effectiveness at that point is just to buy the OEM and replace it more often.

Factor in the rebuild on a RXT. An RXT rebuild is $850 last time I checked. Makes a comparison closer than it first appears.

Someone had a brand new $1400 RXT on here for $850! He might still have it if you look through the marketplace.

Correction.... It's an RST. Looks like he still may have it.

I typed a reply to this thread very early on, but must not have hit submit. I have to recommend the RXT by McLeod as well, and one of the main benefits beyond it's great feel and performance is, as stated previously, it is rebuild-able. I had the one on my Shelby rebuilt about 3 years ago and with shipping from Maryland to California and back it was about $650, so I can't see where, even with the fantastic raising of prices of EVERYTHING we are getting anywhere close to $950 for a rebuild. As far as performance, I put about 40k miles on mine after the rebuild and 25K+ of those miles were at 650+ RWHP with zero issues.

Did yours only last 40k miles, or is it still going?
