Dollar stores are everywhere. That's a problem for poor Americans - CNN
The left is truly insane.
So Walmart is the Holocaust then?
Race was never mentioned once in that article.
I see a fundamental misunderstanding of the eating shopping habits of the poor. There's a reason you don't see a Whole Foods, Publix, or even typically an IGA in poor neighborhoods.
that's what I was thinking.....
OP equates 'low income' to which ethnicity I wonder....
They are nuts forsure. Funny how the dollar stores came in to urban areas after the grocery stores shut down. Why do the grocery stores shut down??? Because they are robbed blind by the local community...
Wal-Mart typically kills the local grocery stores, then the Dollar Store moves in and starts killing the Wal-Mart.
OP is racist!
They can in certain communities but I can think of quite a few cities (at least in Wisconsin) where a super Wal-Mart came in and it didn't kill the local grocery store. It does force the grocery store to be on their game more.
That’s definitely a nutty article, though.
Depends on the population density and affluence of the area. The lower the density and income of the area, the more likely it is that a Wal-Mart will force out other business.
Never knew Dollar stores sold food. Neat.
They have some damn good prices on beer over here.
LOL. Yup, the title got me as well.
Had me hating CNN for playing the race card YET AGAIN. And not liking the dollar racists. No one likes racists. And then you actually read the article.
Of course, the post title was all fake news bullshit to make us feel a certain way about CNN, I guess. No racist stuff. Just a bunch of poor people liking paying less for necessary goods and mom and pop grocers feeling the pinch of lost business.
The article concluded that if people eat more vegetables from mom and pop stores they are less inclined to post fake stuff. (It didn't actually say that, but I think it's what they meant.)
normal grocery stores cannot compete with wally world. Walmart can buy a trainload of an item and get a discount that local mom and pop grocery stores cannot. Closest thing we have around here is Harps which is a coop that goes where walmart does not want to go. They recently took over some rural walmart neighborhood stores that walmart closed up .There a zero small grocery stores
I own Dollar Tree stock ( DLTR ), up almost 19K since I bought it..
Have a store in the same strip mall as a ShopRite, and don't see any impact on their business..
A hugh portion of Walmart's inventory in vendor managed, it is placed on shelves on consignment so its not paid for until it is sold. Very few small stores are able to obtain VMI making it very difficult if not impossible to compete.

did not know that.
That’s what happened in my part of the country.
I have 9 dollar stores in my small town of less than 40k
We have the only Walmart within 70 miles.. all the other small cities have dollar stores and they do all their grocery shopping there instead of Walmart
The 50 Cent Store must be like a klan rally then?
