Cobra/GT Build Thread

So picked up an 04 Cobra Conv a couple years ago because i got it for what i thought was a bargain. Drove it around for a couple years then wanted to get rid of it to get a 00R but could not sell the damn thing, high miles(126K) and leak at the back of the top didnt help.

So I went to install some H&R race springs since i could sell it and saw this

so checked the other side and no bueno. Too much to try and save just from what I could see. Contemplated parting it out but decided I wanted a care to take to the track so I found this GT running with a knock and decided to swap everything over.

pulled the motor and trans sold them both and moved on to stripping the cobra down

Motor got put on the stand will only be getting small things like head cooling mod, new plugs, and long tubes

and then had to move everything from the garage to the drive way to put the other cars away because of the weather.

decided to go with 2016 performance pack brakes up front

going to FTR adapter kit

using 15" brakes and the adapter meant i had to go to 19" wheels so perf pack wheels will go on for now

I’ve thought about making this switch from 00R Brembos to S550 Brembos. Are 19” wheels a must???

No but all the 18" options that I saw were waaaaaay more expensive than the 700 i spent on a set of wheels with new tires. and i have 4 more 19" tires on my shelf so it made more sense.

i have 00r 18x9 rims in my garage when i finally get the front end of the car back together i will test fit them and let you know.

probably the end of the year i will to move to a square setup 18x10 295 or 305

That would be awesome man!! I would love to run a 10” rim for some 305s

i got her in the air and started ripping things off and test fitted the brakes

this is with the perf pack rotor i have the gt500 rotors in the garage just didnt have them at this moment.

a buddy stopped by so we could yank the irs and install an axle back on his new car

Well got my headers and head cooling mod

Also got the cobra irs 14” brake setup complete so my brake bias should be close to spec

i have ordered a bunch more parts but i still need one more order for all the little things.

Everything is on hold right now, I put an offer in to purchase an automotive repair shop so everything will stay on hold until I hear back either way.

Finally had some time this weekend
the head cooling mod is in. I got the rack cleaned up a little and new inner and outer tie rods installed. Also put in aluminum rack bushings. Long Tubes and engine mounts went in and the driver side bottom bolt took forever.

I also got the transmission taken care of. Did the antivenom mod, replaced the TOB sleeve and pivot stud and put the new TOB and Clutch fork in

got new bushings and ball joints into my cobra control arms



got the rear together
eibach sway bar
adj end links
torsen t2
4.10 gears
aluminum/delrin/urethane bushings were all previously done and recoated it in por15
new hub bearings and longer studs so i can run 14" brakes and s550 wheels

finally got the gt back in the garage but ill have to leave my shelby outside for the next few weeks


got the rear out



got the front suspension and steering out


next is gas tank then silver por15 for the entire bottom of the car

if anyone needs the gt stuff im trying to get rid of it all

got the gas tank out, fixed the one rust spot on the car and coated the bottom of the car and the k member

also got the cluster, ecu, center console and some misc trim swapped over from the cobra

and finished up the battery relocation
