Update on the engine. I recently purchased some lowish mile (47K) 97 Cobra cams for a good price. Plan on having them shipped to my machine shop with the engine for inspection and proper degreeing. Anyway progress from today:

^ metal debris on cam towers from oil journals.

Everything looks ok besides the metal debris. Now I haven’t looked at the crank bearings yet so we’ll see what the cause is. But my machine shop will inspect everything and acquire any needed parts.
Thanks again, @2rbo97svt for the cams!

Not that I know much about restoring stuff. General info though. Saw the wheel locks and letting you know that Harbor Freight now sells an assortment of sockets to remove locking lugnuts.

Thanks for the update, I like seeing the progress step by step.

I do as well. I’m hoping to have the rotating assembly out tomorrow then the engine and cobra cams will go to my machine shop for a proper inspection and any repairs needed. They also properly degree the cobra cams for me.

I will be removing them for factory spec lug nuts. Or I’ll get a lock lug kit from LMR or CJ. We do have a lock lug removal kit at my business but with the limited amount of time we just left the wheels on. My plan has slightly changed, I think I’m going to stick with the Mach 1 wheels, although I want some 9in wide wheels for a 275 tire.

Found a Mach 1 that’s pretty close to my goals body wise.

Only differences are I plan on having graphics and badges, stock rear Mustang bumper, and no black wheels.
I’m also waiting on a rebuild of a Terminator IRS that’s at a Mustang salvage yard that’s close to me. If everything goes according to plan I should have it around tax return season.

Thank you. I just noticed that’s a lot of cobra parts on the Mach. But they sure do look good. Now the issue is my planned catback isn’t offered with an IRS setup, but it’s offered with a live axle. Makes perfect sense.

Cool!! When you get her back on the road, bring it to Somernites Cruise in Somerset, KY for the August show. It's Mustang month in August. There's usually hundreds of us there.

I’ve considered going over the Somerset. You guys have some awesome shows over there, but Hopkinsville has 0 interest in car shows to your caliber.

I always enjoy a good project thread. Keep up the good work.

I’m enjoying working on the car. I will make an update tomorrow on the progress so far. I found out what was wrong with the engine.

Looks great. By the looks of your pics you already have weld in subframe connectors as well.

So engine is torn apart. Everything looked pretty good so far until seeing three spun rod bearings. Engine is currently at the machine shop for final diagnosis report. Cobra cams are with the engine and I’m hoping to hear about the health of the crank sometime this week. The machine shop will also be blasting the aluminum to make it pretty again. The car came from the Atlantic coast and bare aluminum is pitted and corroded. But everything will look good as new once finished. I’m considering letting the machine shop just assemble the engine due to the reason of sometimes it’s a month before I’m able to work on it. And I want to drive the car by spring, so this might be the quickest way to make that goal. As I have other repairs needing to be done.

Alright guys I have a question I need answered. I have a diagnosis on my engine, and I need to some info. I’m needing one piston, and the Piston is dished in my car. It’s barely noticeable but it is dished nonetheless. My question is do the Mach 1’s come with a dished piston? I was under the impression it was a flat top piston. I’m wanting whatever is stock in the car as it’s not going to be my hot rod. My Roush has that job, I want this car to have a stock bottom end. I have no idea what’s been done to my car by the previous owner, as I’ve never met nor talked to him about the mods. I’m just being paranoid about the car as now I’m questioning if the bottom end is stock. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
