So I posted this in the newedge forum and found out that only the 99 has the coolant level sensor.

I took my broken sensor apart by scoring the bottom of the sheathing..the dorman part just pulls off.

I desoldered the old reed switch and resoldered a new reed switch on.

The original sheath goes on tight. You could probably just use heat shrink or not sheath it at all, as many of these don't use sheathing at all.

The part is already protected inside the tank chamber that it mounts in.

This is what they look like.
They are readily available thanks to diy kits like arduino are creating. Electronic diy is back!

Cyt1004

There are also plastic body reed switches that are less fragile.

You can find them under a google search: reed switch.

For those who are not interested in doing any soldering:

Uro 012290 or LNA5740AB looks like the correct replacement.
Or 639-05877916

They are used on the bmw and jag.

Standard motors product FLS-177
Also looks correct.

Only 99+?
I swear my 98 has this. I'd have to double check

Yup..looks like the 1996-1999 have this feature.
I am posting up in the sn95 forum for that reason.
I got no interest in the newedge forum.

The best way I found to remount the sensor is to ramp the car, connect the connector first, close the hood so as to support the reservoir, then from underneath push the sensor in with the end of a hammer handle.

You can probably unbolt the reservoir as well.
Either way, you need to get your hands in there to pushed hard on that sensor housing. PITA.

If you have the reservoir completely out...ignore the above!
