If anyone's interested I discovered a 110 octane pump in orange county. Good thing too I'll be able to splash in a little bit before I hit the throttle. What's the legality? I've been told you can pump it into a can, but not directly into a car, that true?

Whats the difference between running straight 100 or 110 octane & using a high quality octane booster like lucas oil makes? Just curious, I drop an octane booster in like every three weeks or so, maybe I should just buy the higher octane gas????

It all depends what you're putting the octane booster or higher octane gas in for... Our cars really don't require anything more then 91 octane at the compression their at, but if you were to go with some sort of forced induction (i.e. blower, turbo, nitrousoxide), with enough boost, or spray, you'd have to run a higher octane gas. That's why most people have a street tune for daily driving on 91 and a race tune with more boost and a much higher octane.

Just for the record, it doesn't hurt to use a higher octane gas or octane booster. I belive it may give us as much as 10 RWHP alone depending on what octane is being used.

actually you won't see any gains by adding octane alone. It wouldn't hurt, but again it wouldn't help. The only way to gain HP with a higher octane is to increase the timing. Running a higher octane really helps to fight pinging and detonation, which is why I'll either drop an octane booster, or a splash of 100 in with my 91 if I plan on running the car hard.

i think if you use 91 oct with an 87 tune (yes, i know, 4v have a 91 tune, only us lonely 2v guys have the 87 tune) it actually makes your car loose power. forgot the exact specifics, but i believe that 91 oct requires higher temps to ignite(sp) than 87. higher compression = higher cylinder temps. nothing harmful if you use higher octane than is required, but you probably wont make any power gain unless you get a matching tune. using a lower octane than required, well, you guys know what happens

110 on a street tune will hurt performance. Don't waste the time or money on a full tank. If you use a splash to add a couple points of octane, that is ok. Unless you are specifically tuned for it, it is a waste.
