She did wait until he started advancing on her quickly. Prior, the distance between them didn't change that much. She shot him just when it was obvious he was now intent on getting to her.
Most of the inservice training now is de escalation and anything other than some kind of force to be used because you'll hurt someone's feeling after they have committed a crime.
So most new and younger police are hesitant about using any force which put them a bad spot to begin.
They have to think about going up the ladder of force before applying deadly force.
How far is the suspect.
What weapon they have ...knife 21 feet? lol
Taser gonna work or not and they get their gun taken and used on them.
Gun you may get a warning or not
Knife maybe one warning
Incapacitation is till the threat is not a threat anymore dead or alive.
Now you can be charged after force for not rendering aid where they want you to run over and help the suspect who could be waiting still or playing possum.
Double tap or Mogadishu drill maybe.
It's a bad time for LEO since they dont want alot of laws to be inforced its gonna keep getting worse.

THIS! I actually think under the circumstances she did a good job. He had plenty of opportunity to drop the knife as he slowly advanced on her, and as soon as he switched to a run at her.....BANG! Down!
