First month in the Mystic

So, I picked up my bone stock Mystic about a month ago, few kills and one loss so far... :mj: Supra is going up for sale next week to fund rear mount 70+mm turbo build, loss made me REAL mad.

I was on my way back from lunch and ran into my buddy with a 96 Cobra with I/E/4.30s/UDPs. We ran twice, once from a dig and once from a 40ish roll. I got him both times, by about half a car from a dig and by a car from the roll. Driver mod FTW? Raced his car again later, three or four more times from a dig and thrice more from a 35 roll. Driver was MUCH better than him, got me by about a car from a dig until around 70 when I'd start catching him. Ate him alive from every roll (first gear every time, stock gears are HILARIOUS). Needless to say, the kid was PISSED. He bought a nitrous kit and ended up selling the car before we could run them again.

After the first two of those races, just a few miles down the road, I had some douche in a 96-98 V6 with an autozone turbo badge on the bumper fly by me. Obviously you all know how that went, just thought I'd throw this in here for laughs.

Raced one of my old Supras, an 89 turbo targa 5 speed with a full 3" and a boost controller. He was pegging 12PSI and dropping to 6 pretty quick, didn't go well for him. Haven't ran him since I fixed it, but all three of the first races were 200+ yards by 100... Still think I can out run him :-D

Cruising up to Indy (big car scene on the south side) I ran into a boosted Civic hatch (92-95) on the highway. Went from a 50 roll, I didn't know he was boosted in the first run so I just put it in fourth, he pulled about a car and a half on me. Next three runs were on the interstate, 65 roll in second. Pulled about two cars on him, maybe a little more. Last run was about ten minutes later, his turbo was significantly louder and he only lost by about half a car. He was breaking up pretty bad, though. I think he cranked the boost up and didn't have the spark to get the job done. Didn't bother stopping to find out mods.

RX8. 20 roll. Nuff said.

And finally, the loss. I ran a boosted old ass Civic hatch with a BIKE RACK on the roof from a dig. Ran away til about 60 and then he BLEW past me still spinning. Turns out he had a decent sized turbo, but he gave me the usual ricer T3/T4 hybrid shit answer when I asked him about it later. He was pretty pissed and refused to believe my car was stock... Guess he didn't see the Snake on the side? :D

The loss made me pretty angry, so I'm looking at selling my Supra and buying an STS rear mount universal kit and using the rest of the money to make it work and repaint my bumpers (typical clear fade). Not too sure how my stock motor will like 5-600rwhp, though. 80k babied original motor, and judging by the carbon that shot out the first 10-15 times I went WOT, probably hadn't seen 3k before I bought it. Pretty clean car overall, here are some pics. I have a few more on my other PC if anyone cares. 18" Anthracite FR500s coming soon. Sorry for the long post, enjoy.

your stock block is not going to handle 500-600 hp and most people do not like the rear mounted turbos.

Your car sounds unusually strong for a 1st gen 4valve Cobra. Either that are you are a WAY better driver than the other Cobra owner. The other races sound right I guess. Dont really know what a 89 Supra should be making with those mods, and turbo Honda's are anybody's guess depending on what they have. Mystic is a badass color and yours looks clean dude.

***EDIT*** What kind of Supra are you selling?

Great kills and respectable death. Those little things can be quick.

As for the rear mount, you won't be getting the best for you money. Go Hellion.

Nice use of thw word "Thrice". Don't see that everyday.

Good kills anyways

Thanks for the complements. I'm leaving for boot in about two months, so I'm not expecting any sort of longevity out of this set up with a stock motor. I'm most likely build a DOHC 5.4 for a (BAB?) vert that'll probably get Whipple'd if I decide to put off getting a Term or building a Supra. An 89 with exhaust and a boost controller runs between 280-320rwhp usually, depends on CR. Head gaskets blow often on these cars and most people don't bother doing the quick measurements to pick a gasket that retains the stock 8.5:1.

The Supra is another black 88 turbo, targa, 5spd. 170k on the body, unknown on the motor. No leaks, doesn't burn anything, minimal smoke on start up (blue-most likely valve stem seals but I haven't run a leak down yet so I can't say for sure), turbo has NO shaft play, body is pretty clean overall, etc. Probably not interested, here's the only pic I have right now.

*******Edit: Pic was huge, deleted it. I'll resize it and post a few later. I'll show you guys my old ones, too.

*******Double edit: **** this, I'm gonna get some suspension, repaint my bumpers, gears exhaust and spray. I'll leave it alone for now. Should have some updates in the next week or two... Got a Civic to hunt down.

It wasn't Mystic, it's black, but yeah. My car might have some mods I don't know about, and I can drive circles around the kid. I've got a K&N filter and a B&M Ripper that doesn't even have the bump stops set, his car has a legitimate CAI (think it was a JLT, not sure but I know it didn't clear his stb), gears, drag radials, a Pro 5.0 and gears.

I'm at work and theres a filter against a lot of photo uploading sites so I can't see the pictures you posted.

From the description though I'm assuming you've got a 96 mystic right?

I was going to get one of those a few years ago but when I checked my insurance (after my accident 2 years before), that idea quickly drifted =(
However fortunately times change, along with insurance rates(thank god) and now I'm back in the cobra club =) bought an 03 10th TR vert last week!
Good luck with whatever setup you end up choosing. I wouldn't count out a supercharger tho, especially a nice twin screw to throw on that badboy!

Yeah, I've got a Mystic, but the one I raced was just another SN95, happened to be a 96 as well. 3.4 Whipple is in my long term plans:beer: But, I could literally make a decent rear mount set up work for almost dirt. Cheaper than any used KB set up I could find yesterday. Have considered swapping to Term heads and bolting on an Eaton... Bolt on and pulley cars make more than enough power to have LOTS of fun in an SN95. Torch Red is an awesome color, and my next Cobra is definitely going to be a vert (most likely a triple black Term, that's the car that got me hooked on cars and I NEED one. lol). Sounds like you picked up a nice Snake, congrats yourself.

I've been in and out of there for a while now. Car might not be as stock as I originally thought, I think my IMRCs open a little later than factory and I know I don't have a 7000RPM rev limiter... Thanks again!

Your race would with the other Cobra would make alot more sense if your car wasnt stock. I wonder what it could have done that you couldnt see with the naked eye:shrug:

I dunno guy, we literally ran from a roll and dig 8-10 times and the outcome was always the exact same. He'd take me bad out of the hole shot (street tires and stock gears, can't even slip it out over 2000 or it spins) and I'd be right back with him by the end of first/beginning of second. Roll races I invariably left him from the get go and pulled more the longer we went.

There was another race I forgot about, I ran some kid in an orange SRT 4 from a dig and a 30ish roll. He just spun off the line so we both let off, from the 30 roll we both just kinda went and it was fairly even, he went first when he was at my rear bumper, I threw it back in first before he made it to my fender and finished with him on my rear bumper.
