I've been road racing mustangs for the better part of 20 years. Well, not racing necessarily, more HPDE, hill climbing and autocrossing. I have a fox body that is prepped for AIX and it's incredibly quick, fun and easy to drive. Having said that, when I bought my 00R, I wasn't all that impressed with it. I admit, that I took it fairly easy with the occasional over application of throttle. Now...fast forward about 8 months. I'm a little less fearful behind the wheel. I still understand that it's an exceedingly rare car, but it was built for a purpose. I had the pleasure of enjoying it on what seemed to be an abandoned mountain road leading to a near empty lake. The sound of that car bouncing off of canyon walls at it's upper RPM range, leaping from corner to corner is INTOXICATING!!!! The car is just about awful to live with for the cruise around town, but allow it to breathe a little and attack a corner or two...WOW!!! Just thought I'd share. :-D

Sounds like an 00R to me.

Thats awesome! I felt the same way when I bought my car. I bought it with 600 miles on it and the first 2 years I didn't really drive it much. I contemplated on selling it and one of my friends who is apart of the Mid-Atlantic Cobra Association (MACA) was doing a mountain cruise. So I decided what the hell, ill take the car out! I bet somewhere around 80 cars showed up and everyone of us stretched the legs on our cars. Like you, I've always had fox body mustangs... This car was absolutely amazing. Needless to say 3 months later, I bought a second one.

I need to convince myself to take it to a track day! :) The R is truly a boring car until it's being driven how it was designed. It feels like another wonky Mustang until you've got it at 7/10s or better. While torque is better with the 5.4, it's still much different than it's pushrod cousins. It LOVES to rev. Hard, all the way to redline. It doesn't run out of breath at all. Just an amazing engine! I'd love to drive a new Mustang with a true IRS as even the R makes do with basic geometry from 1979. That said, it's still fun as hell!

Nice! Sounds like you did a little of what it was meant to do. Fun car for sure!

I must be a shitty driver or easy to please because I have a blast driving my R around town. I love hanging the ass out on corners and such.

I must admit, it's quite fun sharing the experience with the rare few that have had the pleasure to enjoy it! :)

I'm sure you handle the car just fine. I unfortunately live in a town where a fairly loud, bright red car driven at anything more than posted speed limits won't be tolerated. I'd love to take back to back sessions in the R and my racecar. I'm not sure which one I'd enjoy more!
