I'd go with duct tape over the painters..since on the hood you can see a thin blue line.

Duct tape on top of the blue painters tape. Came off easy and worked like a charm!

Not really worried about the aesthetics as much as the protection. The glue on the duct tape is a PITA to get off of paint. Left the little blue lines on purpose. ;-)

No ticket. It really was a DPS friend of mine who happened to be working the highway I was traveling.
