panama city beach is a decent place. only get crowded during spring break and mayybbbee memorial day weekend.
This is tough question to answer. It’s not for everyone. The winter is great, but we’re overrun by snowbirds. You really can’t go out to eat unless you know a few local spots. Even those are getting stupid. Summer, well, it’s summer. I live just north of Ft. Myers and we’re sub tropical. Yeah, it’s gets ****ing hot and very humid. Work wise, depends on what you do. Lots of trade jobs here right now. The pay scale is way lower than anything y’all are used to I’m sure, but there is money to be made. I landed a great job 20 years ago and make very good money for this area. I’ve known a ton of people who tried, but just couldn’t make it. The money wasn’t there, or the storms scared the shit out of them. Speaking of storms. Where I live, they afternoon storms would seem like a hurricane to someone who just moved here. Major downpours, thunder and lightening that is insane along with 50-60 mph wind. All that said, I’ve lived in this part for like 28 years. I don’t want to leave, even though it’s getting more full. Hell, some of the roads used to be dirt or one lane, now 4. Long post, just wanted to put some real life perspective on it. Instead of some monkey who moved here 2 months ago.
I agree w/the folks who have mentioned the area of Jupiter north to Melbourne. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 30 years and loved it but am glad I have relocated to the secret known as Martin County; it's fabulous.
Jupiter is at the northern end of Palm Beach County - it's a great town, still close to 'civilization' but getting more expensive & crowded.
The further north you go, generally the lower the prices. Stuart, Port St Lucie, Vero Beach, Sebastian, Melbourne areas are all gems.
Worst part is during hurricane season- you gotta get use to it. Every time a butterfly farts in Africa, the fearcasters start telling us about the next Cat 5 storm coming. It grinds on you.
New smyrna beach is my recommendation.
I like living in florida. Been here since 82.
****in' right bro...we'll get a boat!
Get up in the mornin. Dishwashah makes our breakfast. Hit the gym to lift. Then it’s out on the boat all day long. Come back to a nice meal.
Pair a dice!
I have friends who used to visit Key West multiple times a year. The love it so much that they moved down to Cudjoe Key in February. They are right on a canal with a boat and a pool. She's a nurse and he bought a boat upholstery business. They are living the dream.
Yea I have to say, putting my ties to my family and our business aside, taking a pay cut would be the hardest pill for me to swallow. Everything else you mentioned, the crowds the storms wouldn't scare me off enough to say I wouldn't be able to do it. I come down to fl at least once a year, stay in our timeshare in Miami and I never want to leave.
Yea my girl's father is pretty much looking to retire there also
If I were going to live in FL, it would be on a boat.
I’d move if my wife’s family wasn’t here. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it but there are far worse states to live in.
Care to elaborate on why you don't recommend it?
Which part are you in?
See above. I’m on the Gulf coast between Sarasota and Tampa.
that's the area I'm looking at ! I'm trying to find a week to fly out to TPA and check out some houses.
If I could choose Marathon would be my first choice but I will abide the dishwashah and end up in Naples.
