Hell even without forced induction a hi-po NA Godzilla would be a sick tribute.

Hence the thread title. I highly doubt they'd waste the R&D on an end of platform swan song. Cool to dream though, blk02buzkill. Excuse me for taking the edge off.

Sell for over million each. It might be worth it.

Out of all the things that'll never happen this will happen the neverest

correct me if I am wrong but wasn’t the whole reason why it didn’t have a V8 to begin with was because of the restrictions of the class of race the GT was in?

The main competitor was the 488 GTE iirc which was a V8. So I don't think so.

I'm quite positive it was all marketing even though certain big name people will tell you it was not. But I do believe it also saved width over having a V8 which allowed cleaner aero which in GT racing is far more important than engine choice. The engines are really quite irrelevant.

Right. It was "look at how cool EcoBoost is". Never a fit for a supercar in my opinion. Off the showroom floor performance is good, but it lacks the same potential as a larger displacement engine. Case in point is the standing mile record holding Ford GT. Not a V6.

I agree when racing in this class the motor is least irrelevant but remind me of the rules for this class... it's been so long I cant remember. What I vaguely remember is under 500 units had to be produced per year, mtor had to be under 4L if forced induction and under 5L if naturally aspirated? I honestly wanted remember but I know it was something along those lines. You have more knowledge in this then I do

Wasn't the corvette a 5.5L v8?

In reality there's some Ford test engineers laughing really hard at this article after they put on fake exhaust tips and speakers for engine noise on their new GT-E mule, and the mysterious "oil cap" they cite is actually a charging port.

In related recent Ford GT news.

The newest Ford GT supercar is a tribute to the one that started it all.

The 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition has been designed to resemble the GT40 test cars that first raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 and set the groundwork for Ford's historic 1966 victory in the race, as recounted in the film "Ford v Ferrari."

The $500,000+ coupe features a Wimbledon White exterior with Antimatter Blue graphics, carbon fiber wheels and interior accents. It's the sixth and final tribute edition of the GT since it debuted in 2017.

"This is the first Ford GT Heritage Edition that goes beyond celebrating race wins – this one goes deep, and honors the earliest of Ford supercar heritage," said Ford GT program manager Mike Severson.

"The Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition is a modern interpretation of the original, with no mistaking what this car is paying tribute to."

Five prototypes were built and only two remain with one still wearing its original livery. The cars entered in the 1964 and 1965 Le Mans races failed to finish, but Ken Miles picked up the GT40's first win at the 1965 Daytona 2000 km race and took the checkered flag at the inaugural 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966 before Ford swept the podium at Le Mans later that year.

The heritage edition car is mechanically the same as the standard GT and equipped with a 660 hp turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 which can propel it to a top speed of at least 216 mph. It will make its public debut at the Monterey Car Week ahead of the start of production in January.

Ford originally planned to build 1,000 GTs from 2017 to 2020, but extended the run through 2022 and 1,350 cars.
