In the same boat with my 04 Cobra. After driving my 11GT it is very noticeable how uncomfortable the positioning is in the Cobra.

Move the seat forward...that's funny...so my knees are in the dashboard...dumb.

Yeah the shifter is in a tough position. I drove my buddies
13 GT and was amazed how much more convenient they are to drive. I am 5'11 and average arm length and never have a problem shifting my cobra with a tri-ax.

I'm about 5'10" and have no issues with my MGW with the blue handle, which I think is one of the shortest handles. Also I don't think I have longer arms than average and like said above, move your seat up as it might help. I know when I had my Mach 1 I shifted worse with my seat all the way back until I moved it up, sure it may have not look as cool but at least I could shift my car when needed.

Had some time at work and a little metal laying around about an hour later problem solved. Thanks guys that was easy. I went with the latest template with the handle tilted 10 degrees. I could have actually used it back even more, but it is way more comfortable than it was before.

Looks like a very effective fix. Nice to see someone fix it themselves without purchasing it thru the internet.

If I get a good template or file I'll laser cut some, powder them and get them out at cost.

Glad lots of people here at SVTP offer nice services like this.

I just installed my MGW with orange handle and i really like it.
The throw is perfect, and comfortable. Almost as comfortable as my s197.
Plus the gripper knob i ordered is 100x better than the stock knob imo.

need to figure out something for my tri-ax. always hated the sn95 shifter position.

I have heard of people running the tri-ax handle on a Pro 5.0 shifter. That said the bolt patterns should be the same and the templates will probably work for you too.

Not only did I move my shifter back but also more towards the left on a Tri-Ax shifter....feels good!

Bought some aluminum stock from eBay $15 shipped for 3/8 thick 4inch by 6inch piece. Pics show it cut already. Thanks to Earico and others for the ideas!

That thickness aluminum looks optimal. Very nice job on the mod. Nice and solid mount.

EDIT: I added a link to this thread in my Terminator FAQs for future reference. Also the original "reach mod" for the Pro 5.0 thread.

Purchased a 2003 Cobra Tuesday, and did a little driving in it yesterday. I forgot how much I hated the location of the shifter. I owned a 2003 back in 04 and remember thinking the same thing when I had that car. I am a shorter guy at around 5'9" and shifting into third gear requires leaning a lot to the right. Why did they have to put the shifter so far forward in the car? Is there anything that helps? I love everything else about the car, just hate the way the shifter feels. I am sure this issue has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything doing a search.

Funny how for one its a terrrible for anther its a great fit. I love where its at! But I'm over 6'2. The one thing I would like is shifter that is really solid and clicky very positive placement feel and while moving and reaching the gear placement.

The MGW has a very positive feel and is very short stroke. I have run the Triax in my 65 Cobra replica with a T-5 trans and really liked that too, but the MGW is the only shifter other than stock that I have tried in this car and I love it so much I don't feel the need to change it. That being said, this mod will not work for the MGW because it has a different mounting configuration than any of the other aftermarket shifters, which are all patterned after the stock 2 bolt configuration.
