MCM(Motor City Mashers) members! If you've ever wanted to be a beer competition judge, it looks
like you've got your chance! Below is an email that was sent to Jason at
Adventures in Homebrew and he would like you all to know about this
opportunity. Read on!

Event: Michigan State Fair Homebrew Competition
Judging dates: Saturday August 16th 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday August 17,
Noon to 5 p.m. NOTE; two days, so two judge points for this competition.
Judge location: Dragonmead Microbrewery in Warren.

I need 54 judges each day
I need up to 17 stewards each day

You do not have to be BJCP to participate especially as a steward, but
experience really helps for judging.

If you can help, please notify me ASAP at [email protected] [1]
I need to know if you can one or the other or both days.
I will also need to know your experience level
If you are entering the competition I need to know what cats you are
entering.
If you have a judging preference, let me know and I do what I can.
Please show up early to complete paperwork and get your assignments.

Let me know, then please go to the registration site below and fill out the
details.

More Info:

The Michigan State Fair Home Brewing Competition is rapidly approaching. As a
reminder, entries are going to be accepted from July 21 to August 2. Once
again, we have several drop off locations, which are listed below. We ere
trying to have envelopes available at all sites for your entry information
but in any case, here are some reminders:

- Entries are (2) 10 to 22 oz bottles of a single batch of Michigan made
beer. You may enter any category you like, but only one entry per sub
category.

- For categories 20 thru 23, PLEASE specify the special ingredients AND the
underlying style. Every year, we have entries that do not perform as well as
they could because the underlying BJCP style is not listed

- With your entries, PLEASE place your check or cash in an envelope and list
the following on the outside: Entrant Name, Number of Entries, and Amount
Paid.

Here are the drop off locations:

Dragonmead Microbrewery http://www.dragonmead.com/ [3]

-------- MORE INFO ABOUT THE BEER JUDGING
------------------------------------

Folks, below is another email from Rex regarding the State Fair homebrew
competition. Please help if you can. It sounds like Rex really needs some
help!

Read on:

OK friends,

I finally relize I need to get serious here.

Last I heard we were approaching 800 entries for the state fair home brew
comp.

The first round at Dragonmead August 16 and 17 is going to be one of critical
mass, that is I need mass or it will be critical.

I have three pages of judges so I was not too worried until I added them up
yesterday. With judges spread over two days it looks like we only have half
the judges and half the stewards we need to accomplish this in two days.

We have two major conflicts on this weekend, the Beer and Music Festival in
Bay City and the Woodward Ave Dream Cruise.

If every judge and steward found another judge and steward we will be all
set. I know this is not always possible, some of you do not have any friends
;-) (that take beer as serious as you do), but some of you belong to clubs
and have resources to get two or three to join you if pushed, so I am asking
you to push.

Here is the info for them to sign up:

I need to know if you can help Sat the 16 or Sun the 17 or both? Let me know
at [email protected] [1] then please go to the registration site below and
fill out the details.

Judge Registration Wizard:
http://www.HordsOfFun.Com/hbc.rw/judgewiz.aspx?w=0513131902 [2]

or if you have trouble try this:

http://www.hordsoffun.com/hbc/ [3]

NOTE: The judging at Dragonmead in Warren, not the fair grounds as stated on
the registration form.

This is a two day and therefore a rare 2 BJCP judge points competition.

I passed the word on for you. I have a couple of buddies who brew their own beer and would enjoy this. I (my wife technically) just had a little girl who is consuming my time lately. She is the best and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I might even miss woodward for her.

We had a little girl, 6lbs 12 oz. We ended up at the hospital for 4 days. Wow!! She is awesome. I am taking care of the wife and baby since there were a few complications. I am trying to get sleep in between. I don't know how women do this all the time.

Matt, I'm glad to hear that things turned out well!

I can understand why you might not make it to Woodward
