Hey guys, when I first bought my car back in May I went ahead and ordered a bunch of the basic tune up parts on Amazon (air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, etc). All parts were Motorcraft and per Amazon's site would fit my car. Now I'm finally getting around to taking car of the fuel filter and it is way bigger than the one currently on the car. They sent me FG-872 which appears to actually be a van/truck filter. Whatever, my fault for not double checking.

So, now I go to the owner's manual (Cobra supplement) and it says FG-800A. All the parts house websites are telling me that this doesn't fit my car and that it's actually FG-1114.

I am losing my mind, does anyone have the Motorcraft part number for a fuel filter that they installed and actually had it fit?

Cross-referencing part #s among two or more reputable mustang vendors is the best way to make sure you're not buying the wrong parts.

Call Mike R at AutoNation Ford and he will hook you up with correct fuel filter. They are a vendor here. Here's the number 1-800-328-9552

Thanks for all the help and tips.

I ended up picking up FG-1114 at O'Reilly's. FG-986B is what came out of the car. Weird that the Ford manual would list a part number that isn't correct.

Wasn't too bad of a job overall. Pretty tight in there and you'll need plenty of rags to soak up the gas. Noticed a leak on the differential when I was under there though so on to the next project...

The FG-1114 replaces the FG-986B so you have the correct part. If you can, let the car sit overnight and you will have very little fuel to soak up!
