Meet the Oculus Quest, just recently released.

    Oculus-Quest-2-800x450.jpg

    NO Wires
No console or PC required, its just the headset and controllers
    $400 all in one
    Really good reviews
Solid library of games with tons more coming
Optional streaming PC VR games to the headset
Great internet browser and movie theaters
    VR Porn
Emulators for old games already working on it
    Free games via web browsers

This thing is no joke. Just an example below of a simple game, but look at how user-friendly and precise it is below even with two people. You can make nearly any room your play space and map it out. Office, man cave, even outside so long as the lighting is dim.

For those of you that haven't tried VR, its very different inside the headset. No video can prepare you for the immersion and sense of scale. Everything is life-sized and has actual depth, to the point you feel that you can reach out and touch things. To prove my point, how many times have you tried to reach out and grab things you see on your TV or monitor? We don't do that. But in VR, it's commonplace and it makes a massive difference in the way games feel. Depth + Scale.

As someone who's dabbled in VR off and on for a few years, this is probably the most impressive device I've used. It's well thought out, easy to use, and very precise. I used it outside on my friend's porch. lol. It feels insane using this tech and I can't imagine where it's going, this is big step up.

It was sold out for awhile but I think stock is back up.

The landscape for gaming is changing fast.

There's actually a bunch of before and after posts showing people getting in shape with these things.

I played Superhot on it outside at about 80 degrees, I'm not really out of shape but I was feeling the burn and not even realizing it. It really sneaks up on you.

After owning the rift for about 6 months I can tell you VR is here to stay in my opinion. It's just keeps getting better and better. The li ary started out small but has grown. With that growth is alot of puke games but you just need to weed them out and play the stuff that you really enjoy. Personally I played a bunch of the stuff that came with the device and they were all fun and different. Keep talking and no body explodes is great fun with people to play with. I have a couple of first person shooters that are fun but are definitely the most nauseating. I experience sickness the 5-10 time I played with it but it got less and less each time. If anyone is on the fence check around locally because alot more places are popping up offering VR experience with the vive or the oculus for parties ect.

Definitely going to get one of these! I have the PS VR and I enjoy it although I dont use it all the time. I suck for the most part at COD Blackout but if I use my VR headset just as a big screen TV essentially I do way better than normal. Playing Gran Turismo in VR is incredible too but they need it so the whole game is VR compatible.

Yeah, I was lucky there somehow, I've played probably 200 VR games and never felt any motion sickness at all.

What's the resolution on this? The main thing holding back VR is the pixels required for true life like immersion. They have speculated that you would need about 32K resolution or 16k per eye. That's 15360 × 8640 or 132.7 megapixels per eye!

2K, 4K or even 8K is not good enough. I am sitting in front of a 4K 40" computer screen that is about 22-24" away from my eyes. I am not sure if even sixteen of these 40" displays would fill my peripheral vision.

You will need serious computing power to deliver 16k per eye. We are more than a decade away from achieving that I think.

women will only be needed for child making. Thanks VR!!!!

Most are between 1080p and 5k right now, there's one out that is 8k I believe. For me though, I have an expensive 4K Samsung TV that's nice. It looks super crisp, but when I use VR the advantages of the scale and depth perception just blow away extra clarity from my TV, and I'm someone that really likes a clean image. It's not even close for me. I go back and forth too within minutes and I'm always wowed by VR, but when I switch back to my TV everything feels lifeless and flat. The depth perception by itself is a game changer.

Another tech that is already out is foveated rendering. VR can sense exactly where your pupils are looking and render that portion at 100%, decreasing the rendering taxation beyond that on the peripheral.

Basically Porn with life size scale, 360 degree viewing, and depth perception. It's a game changer. More than the difference between oldschool VHS porn days to modern internet Porn. Maybe comparable to the difference between looking at pics in magazines and HD video. VR is that much further ahead.

They are already amazing, I got to try a real pro setup with iracing and it was pretty epic. That sim was way beyond my budget though

I've tried that exact game. Amazing. There's really nothing outside of VR to compare it to. I had been playing PS4 Gran Turismo before that, and it was like playing an NES racer then jumping to PS3 or even PS4 with the added immersion. It's hard to describe the leap in technology.

I play Dirt Rally on PSVR. I'm not even a big fan of rally racing normally, but holy shit it's incredible in VR. One of my friends recently bought a PS4, PSVR , and a steering wheel right after trying it. It's difficult though with sim settings.

Yea Gran Turismo is junk, after Forza had come out it became entirely useless. Forza is actually quite realistic now too when the settings are dialed (its what I have now), Im just waiting for oneX to get VR and support it. Spending crazy money on a PC setup isnt worth it to me as Im at a real track every weekend lol

I play Forza and Gran Turismo. I think with GT Sport the series got back on track personally. It's nothing amazing, but for me, nothing outside of VR is amazing anyway. I could play Forza 10/GT 10 on a 300-inch 32k display and you still don't get depth perception.

    For sure...

Is this something I can use my wheel setup with or do you still need to have a PC to pull that off? I've always wanted to do F1 with VR but I just haven't got into the PC gaming yet. The Fanatec setup and Xbox One X is a pretty good combo on most games.

Overall GT has gone down hill, but I dont know Forza could ever have a better physics model than GT Sport. To me, it's not even about how realistic the handling characteristics are for each car, but rather that every Forza game I have owned has excessive body roll and then the car feeling detached from the input on the controller in comparison to at least the GT series. I have always preferred GT for that reason, but I wish they would get back in it with some better content. GT usually looks better too as they do an exceptional job at rendering each car in GT Sport, but I would trade some of that for some more American cars at least lol.
