are there any noise suppression gains to be had by replacing your first version with your new version?

It depends on the level of noise you're dealing with. The main reason why people replace the gasket is that it is more durable, being double thickness. I've had a lot of new orders and a good percentage are from customers upgrading. I have had a lot of comments from these new buyers that they like the new gasket much better and that they have noticed a greater reduction in noise. I'm sure every car is different. I can tell you, though, that the new gasket is just plain more durable due to it being twice as thick. I think you'll like it.
