After a successful drive to/from Detroit for Motor City FoxFest (1800 miles) I decided to swap to a T56. With as much driving as I expect to do I think the 6th gear will be better for me.

I’ll soon be ordering a T56 Magnum once I track down a T56 03/04 Cobra Bellhousing (if you know of one not on eBay please let me know).

The only casualty of the road trip was that a brand new Magnaflow Universal Cat failed (even though it was broken in). Bummer since it’ll take some welding to replace!

BTW - The nearly new TKX has come out and sold to a buddy to support his Gen 1 Coyote swap build.

Wide ratio T56 Magnum is installed. Driveshaft, fluids and some modification of the safety loop are all that’s left.

Some tid bits of information that may help others.

The Tremec bellhousing was well within spec on the runout - this makes the second one that I’ve had good luck with.

The dowels on the transmission were larger than the bellhousing opening. Check this before mating the two.

Tonight the new driveshaft from a local shop goes and and hopefully a test drive tomorrow.

Maybe I missed it, what clutch?

I did miss that! McLeod RST with McLeod Billet Steel flywheel. I also added a Pro5.0 shifter handle. The positioning of the handle is perfect for a foxbody now.

Btw, the SST T56 Reverse Control Lockout Module is amazingly simple to install - especially if you retain the oem instrument cluster.

After getting the tailpipes just right thanks to my vband setup, I warmed it up to test.. all sounds/looks good through the gears. Hopefully tonight we can drive this some!

I like the car and how you kept the swap reversible. I'm leaning towards the swap for my 01 Cobra roller because of the cost to rebuild my 99 Teksid block and all of the machine work and small parts hunting. A coyote will give me a big power boost and then throw the turbo on top of that.

I'm only in the planning stage because I'm in Japan for a while, but I bought an R33 GT-R to keep me company while I'm here (2 years). It will be coming home with me.

Planning is a fun stage! There are many nuances that are not evident when doing the swap. It was quite the debate whether to build a 363 or go this route - I’m happy with my decision. Great power and I can drive it anywhere. The trip to Michigan was fun and I look forward to many more.

Happy to help once you get more serious - start a thread on here and we can guide.

Awesome build. Did something similar with my 93 Cobra. No regrets. Never enjoyed a mustang in my life like as I do this one the past 5 years. Drive it every day.

Nice build. Start a new post in this forum with the details! Also, does that setup clear the stock hood? Looks like it from the pictures. If so, what did you do to make it fit?

On close inspection :)
That’s a Cervinis ‘03-04 Cobra style Foxbody hood so it does have a slight cowl.
I’d like to know too as I planned to use the same hood vs stock.
