You can do it without a program.

1. Go to iTunes and pick the song you want
2. Get Info and go to Options Pick Start time and End time that you want for ringtone
3. Advanced - Convert to AAC
4. Go to My Music and find the song, change properties from .m4a to .m4r
5. Drop song into "Ringtones"
6. Sync with iPhone

i tried that. it would not work with the newest version of itunes. it wouldn't let me drop the new ringtone in. This site makes it way easier than that. Trust me. You dont download any software, it does it on the browser.

I have the newest version of iTunes and have no problems. It takes about a minute. But whichever you prefer.

Or you can jailbreak your iPhone and have zero issues with ringtones ever again. It's pretty easy too. I did mine and took me all of 10 minutes to do. I have a mac and did it but the instructions are essentially the same. Just follow the instructions on screen. There is 0% chance you can brick your phone, too. You can ALWAYS restore it in iTunes if you have problems...which you wont if you just follow the directions.

What exactly does Jailbreaking your iPhone do? I've heard about it but never paid mind to it.

It isn't working for me either. I try to drop it into ringtones and it doesn't show up.

jailbreaking voids what little warranty you have on your $500 phone. No thanks.

I have about 10 custom ring tones now. Pretty easy and awesome!

What songs are you guys using? Downloaded? From CDs? Itunes store?

Edit: And are you changing it to a .m4r? Odd that I don't have any problems.
Double Edit: Site is EXTREMELY helpful if the song is already on there.

Downloaded. Yes, I changed them to .m4r and it shows them as ringtones. It's okay though, I used the site dgussin posted and it has worked fine.

you can put your own song on there and edit it to the part where you want the ring tone.
