ok.......i know absolutely nothing about guitars, besides fender makes kick ass guitars. My g/f has been taking lessons for about a year now and doesn't like using acoustic for a few reason. she says electric is easier? her somewhat large "boobs" don't allow the acoustic to get close enough? i really don't know. I have found a really nice looking fender but would like opinions from someone who knows. i went and talked to the person that gives her lessons and the place really didn't have much to choose from. here is the one i'm looking at and would probably get the Transparent Crimson Red, Rosewood Fretboard (middle picture i believe). please advise!!!! lol

It's a lot easier to get sound out of electric then acoustic. I found it to be harder in the fingers, plus acoustic was to clean sounding for me. If it's her first electric guitar I'm sure she will be happy with anything. That is a nice guitar you picked out.

i don't know if there are ones that would be easier to play or setup differently is my problem. when i talked to her instructor he was explaining something down where the string are and how many their were???? yes i admit i am musically retarded!

He was probably talking about the pickups (the things under the strings that pick up the vibration from strings to make sound). If she plays clean then that guitar is good. Humbuckers are double coils and give more of a heavier rock sound.

That's a pretty expensive guitar for a beginner, but it will play well for sure. That guitar would last for a long time since it's pretty high quality. Most beginner guitars only last for a little while because as a player gets better they pick up better guitars to better reflect their skill. One concern with that guitar is what type of music she intends to play. Fender's are NOT good for harder rock/metal... the single coil pickups just don't distort as well as a humbucker (a humbucker looks like two single coil pickups set side by side).

I would agree on the Fender Stat as a very good starter guitar, the question is what type of music will she be playing.BTW that is a very nice first guitar if you choose that one, what amp are you going with?

It's better to learn on an acoustic but get whatever she is comfortable with. I started out with an acoustic and got a red strat shortly after. Now I got guitars all over the house.

she won't be playing any heavy rock. i was looking at the middle "grade" guitars so it would last her a long time and could grow into it.

Guitars last a long time regardless of price. Mine was $300 when I got it 7 years ago and it still works fine. You should go with a Fender Stratocaster. You can buy packages that come with the guitar and amp.

The guitar will be fine as for the amp have you checked out Line 6 they have some cool amps with lots of features and sound clips for different models and sizes.

I personally wouldn't encourage any of the guitar/amp packages. You tend to come out of them with a not so great amp. If it were me I'd buy the guitar and amp seperately. If I were to recommend something it'd probably be this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Vox-DA5-5w-1x6-5-Battery-Powered-Guitar-Combo-Amp-482065-i1168989.gc

I personally know two people who have one of them and they sound great. Small, very easily portable, can operate on the batteries for what seems like ever. Don't let the small size fool you either, it f*cking screams when you turn it up...

I would stay away from the package deals. Yes they are cheap but they are cheap. Hit Craigslist, its Xmas and people are in desperation mode for cash. For $400 you should be able to find a Jap Strat of some vintage. Then take it in to a guitar tech and get it set up after Xmas ($50 to 80 bucks), its totally worth it. If she doesnt like it sell it next month.

I wouldn't buy a guitar that I personally didn't try out. It has to feel right when you hold it, and when you play it. Electrics are usually easier to fret because the string gauge they use is lighter - requiring less force to push down.

First of all, the big boob theory doesn't hold water. Dolly Parton plays an acoustic, and she also has monsterously long fingernails. I don't know how she does it, but then lots of women have long fingernails and can type really fast, so I guess it's a woman thing. You should have a good shop set up the action on the acoustic. Basically they cut the height of the bridge piece down, and it will be much easier to play. Different strings make a difference on sound and playability also. I really like Martin Silk and Steel for my 12 string, but Bronze for my 6. When you get the electric, Fender has a really nice kick a** amp that has mutiple functions called G-DEC. Ask them to show you one, you will be impressed. It has lots of bells and whistles!

that fender is perfectly fine for a begginer...even a squier would do just fine. usually american guitars( fender, gibsons, and etc) are alot easier to play into many style. try to go to guitar center instead of buying it online if you can. they always cut the price at guitar center especially during the holiday season.

If you've got the money for that, go for it...

I've been playing for 6 years and haven't bought a guitar over $350
