No. That is exactly what was wrong with the model 19 had, and like I mentioned, it looks like somebody had the side plate off of that one you have. Somebody may have cut a few coils off the rebound spring to lighten the action in SA mode (cocked then fired). It royally screwed mine up till I bought a new Wolf spring and replaced.
Shit, that is why I asked because you said that. It feels way too light for a factory weapon, like an ND is destined to happen if you have it in single action.

Another thing you may or may not notice, if the rebound spring has been trimmed and the trigger is that light, it won't always push the cylinder stop and trigger fully back into position after pulling the trigger and releasing, and it just locks up the whole gun when that happens, because the cylinder stop is still engaged with the cylinder preventing it from revolving to the next chamber.

The next question is, how does it feel when you pull the trigger in double action mode (not cocking it first)?

Everything actually feels in good working order. Double action feels normal with the usual heavy pull, but just that single action squeeze is way too light.

In light of all the media buzz on guns I decided I want to turn in all of my weapons. /sarcasm

Actually just the opposite, I decided I am going to be taking a concealed carry class and I want to get a dedicated EDC handgun. I love 10mm but there are not a whole lot of concealable options except for the Glock 29. I got a holster for my 10mm 1911, but it is too heavy and hard to conceal no matter where I put it.

So, I am interested if any of you have input on a the Glock 29 or other good EDC options. I shoot 10mm very well and feel comfortable with the cartridge but I am not opposed to a single stack 45 like the M&P 45 Shield. I have held them both and I like them about the same, just curious what you guys think about either one, or if there are others I should consider. I am 5'9" and about 250lbs.

I'll be shooting a BUG match (back up gun) with some old guys tomorrow who love the Shield in 45.

My guess is the rebound spring needs replacing, unless somebody did something else more nefarious to it.

I'd do it for you if you weren't on the other end of the planet from me.

I'll see if I can take it out to our range and see if it will operate somewhat normal. My buddy has all the tools to handle the repairs if needed, but thanks for the offer. It's funny cause it isn't even my gun but the guy that owns it just picked it up from an old lade because it was cool. He doesn't really know anything about guns so he should let me have it.

Here's a "how to" thread I put up a couple of years ago replacing springs in a S&W wheel gun.

I got yelled at in the thread for using my dad's 60 year old screwdriver. I didn't booger anything up though. I'd use it again, lol.

Thanks, one vote for the Shield.

I drove through there today on the way to East Coast Classic Cars. Saw one sweet '67 fastback with an FE in it.

Yeah I saw a lot of classics out today. I rolled up next to a blue 69 camaro that sounded pretty healthy right near Fuquay Gun & Gold

I got to dryfire a new Shield in 45 today. Far better trigger than any stock M&P or other Shield I have picked up to date.

Yeah, I did like the trigger on it a lot. I tried a performance center one and that trigger was really nice. It had an apex sear kit which is better than the standard shield 45. I liked the trigger on the M&P more than the G29 but I really don't mind the glock trigger either. Such a tough decision.
