Perusing through the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 as passed by the House I noticed a short list of exempt weapons. Among the weapons listed were:

- M1 Carbines with standard fixed stock
- M1 Garand with fixed 8 round capacity and standard stock

I'm familiar and partial to the two listed above. I was surprised when I noticed the following:

- Ruger Mini-14 (w/o folding or telescoping stock or pistol grip)

The more I researched the Mini-14 the more I liked what I saw - it kind of slips by due to it not being considered a scary black rifle. It does have a history of reported inaccuracy but Ruger made changes to address that and I was really only interested in the latest version anyway. So I started looking, particularly for a stainless/wood stock version. I quickly noticed that they are silly expensive in comparison to an AR whereas they used to be a pretty good value. Being in NY, they meet the "doesn't have evil features" standard that you have to consider.

Anyway, I saw online that Cabela's has them. I punched in the zip for my local store and it said it had wood stocked versions but were "limited." So I drove there and spoke with a Cabela's employee behind the counter. He told me that they no longer sell a single semi-automatic rifle in NYS due to the confusion created by the Concealed Carry Improvement Act. Furthermore, I learned that NY requires an addendum to your pistol permit in order to be able to buy a semi rifle. Some counties in NY (as per two phone calls to the NYS Police hotline) require a CC permit to have serial numbers added and others don't record a semi rifle purchase but you must have a CC permit in order to buy a semi rifle in NYS now. Total cluster****.

So I visited my local Sheriff's office and had my permit updated via a small fee so I could then be allowed to purchase a gas operated rifle. After going through all this the vendors I had lined up to purchase from were sold out of wood stocked Mini's that met NY's requirements. Un****ingbelievable.

I found a vendor in MN of all places but with a synthetic stock instead of wood. I'll track down a stock, not worried about that. Just getting something in my hands before they pass even more laws was the goal here.

NYS absolutely sucks. No wonder why so many have left and more will in the future.

I love the firearm. It's like a combination of a Garand, an M1 Carbine, and an M14 all in one, albeit a in slightly smaller package.

The problem is yall put up with that state government bs , you need to move to a free state

I've been aware of this for some time. It'd be nice to cut ties that I can't and just exit. That is not to say there isn't a plan in place to GTFO.

Although I completely understand the desire to move from a liberal shithole, it's like an army in retreat. As a conservative, I think we need to be on the offensive. Take these places back. Raise more conservatives and send these liberals packing. If we don't, they will spread like a virus.

NY, like CA, is lost. The teet has solidified its roots and won't be going back the other way. I'd rather see remaining red states solidified than to continually hope for a Hail Mary victory at every election cycle. You simply can't change a turd into a steak sandwich.

You may be right, but I hope not.

Braces are Band as of today.
Nah. Rule doesn't get published until tomorrow and I have 120 days to comply (read: 120 days for courts to strike down the rule).
