How much "new" tuning is required if all that was changed is the injectors & cams?

Simply put, I have an existing tune file from a few years ago (remote tune). I have recently upgraded the cams from factory to Comp Stage 3's and injectors from ID1050x to ID1300. Is a major tune revision needed? Or, is this something (with software access) that I could update the parameters myself? (New to tuning here)

Still tinkering with that black turd I see! Good to see you're still hammering away with it. I won't speak on your question at hand but I purchased MS3 for my car a few months back, I just haven't installed it yet. I want to take a crack at tuning for myself.

Absolutely still at it! I’m just taking my sweet ole time. After being away for work, I finally got around to finishing the engine assembly & installed the new cylinder heads. Here’s a few recent engine photos I took at my shop mocking up the new belt configuration & 10 rib set up. The engine is in the car now, almost ready to fire up.

If you have the unlocked file you can make the changes to the current tune. But if the file is locked you'll have to talk to the tuner that originally did it about making the changes.

If the old tuner is no longer around then a new tuner would basically start from scratch.

If you want to get into tuning I would suggest the MS3 set up. IMO it's easier to deal with than something like SCT. And it's a better set up when you start getting into bigger injectors and cams.

Is it safe to attempt a “start up only” with the current tune? I do not have the original injectors (ID1050x) or MAF (although same).

So the MAF is the same model as before, just a new unit?

I'm assuming you want to fire it to make sure it's ok after all the work. You can fire it, but I wouldn't let it run long. Those injectors are going to hose down the cylinders with the current data in the tune.

What are you planning on using to tune it?

Yes. Same MAF, just a new unit. I sold the previous MAF as a package deal with my old supercharger. So, I bought another one.

And you are correct about just a quick fire up. My thoughts were to just do an operating temp shake down essentially.

But, sounds like it is going to do more harm than good. I say this because I also installed a new set of rings and gapped them differently. Perhaps waiting to properly seat them with a proper injector calibration might be best.

I am currently on SCTx3 with the Advantage 3 software. I was planning to just modify the injector data in the current tune. But the current tune files format isn’t supported by the updated Advantage 3 software. The tune is from 2019. The car ran great on this tune.

Fast forward 5-6 years later, along with the pandemic mess, I’m getting back around to the upgrades & the tuner is no longer available. So, guess it is up to me.

Changing the injector data should be enough to get it running pretty close.

Yeah, if the rings are new I wouldn't fire it up without the right data. That sucks its not compatible anymore. I haven't used SCT in years because they went dumb.

Maybe Kevin can at least get you a base tune to fire it up and get things seated. Then decide what you want to do from there.

assuming its a new edge your best bet would be to get yourself a moates quarterhorse

You can read the existing tune off the ecu.
Then as long as the injector data isn't clipped to all hell you should be able to plug in the new injector data and have it within 10% from just a simple injector swap.
