How much over bore is too much

I just bought a 3v block or a 05-10 wap block (whichever you choose) and I found out it was remanufactured at some point. I used my digital caliper to try and measure the bore cause I don't have a bore gauge and it was saying 3.565 which I'm going to assume the caliper didn't have THAT much accuracy so I'm gonna say it's 3.562 which is .010 over . So knowing it's .010 over made me wonder if this block is like the earlier wap block were .010 over was the max you could go. If anyone knows if the later wap blocks in the 3v's were different and you could bore them like teksids, let me know. Not looking to go bigger, just curious about it

Who is telling you that you can't take a WAP block more the .010 over?

I've seriously have never read or been told that by anyone reputable I've spoken to about the WAP block.

Your particular block is considered a Nemak block and shares some similarities with the older WAP block.

I have been told that the limit on any aluminum 4.6 for a boosted application is application .020 and .030 for N/A.

Now how true is this I am not sure but if people were killing blocks under boost with a .020 over bore there would be tons of info on it.

I could go on and on but I honestly think you're fine and I'd send it.

Hopefully you don't have issues with crap machine shops in your area like I do. Most around me don't have torque plates and won't go .010 over.

I believe I heard somewhere that older wap blocks don't like being much over .010 and that's the "sweet spot". Whether that's true or not we'll never know but a guy named Andrew Lavender made close to 1200hp on an older wap block that was .010 over. I know the max on teksids is .020 for boost but I couldn't really find any info on boring a nemak. Since the bore job was done by ford and the block was taken from a perfectly running 08 gt, I would assume that I could just hone it and slap something together. Of course the machine shop would judge it for me cause I don't know what I'm looking for but I haven't started looking for reputable machine shops close to me that are familiar with the modular engines. Sorry to hear about your issues, I bet it makes you wanna open a machine shop yourself haha

If the bore is straight and you can get away with a hone and custom pistons I'd go that route.

That's the route I plan on going since I have an untouched NOS WAP block in my garage right now. It has some minor surface rust in the cylinders from sitting on the shelf for 20 years and I just need to know where it cleans up at and go from there.

Eventually I'll get to it and either find a shop locally or ship it to someone who knows what they are doing.

Any time you machine metal you should put a protective film on it if its not going right back together. Mix one part mineral spirits and one part conventional 20w50 motor oil and slap it in a spray bottle. We have a 2jz engine from the 90s we machined thats been sitting on the shelf over 20 years and it looks like it was just machined this morning.

Wow, never knew that. Thank you for the recipe, I’ll give it a try once I machine it or bore it

I wish ford had done something similar with this NOS WAP block I have. I was honestly shocked to find the bores bone dry when I got it.

Oh nice, I think theres a reputable place in gilroy that I'm going to check out but I'll let you know
I'll be interested to hear back.

I have one shop locally that I may go with. It all depends on how things are going with the owner.

Very knowledgeable guy and knows the 4.6 but the last time I was there he was going through a rough time and I wasn't comfortable leaving my parts with him.
