I’ve been in Fort Lauderdale prepping the boat. I’ve done all I can do. It’s insured. I’m flying back to SC.

no shit, we're all sitting up here watching to see if we need to put the boards up and start filling gas cans (we've got a private stash at work). I think after this shit, Im getting hurricane shutters or something. No more drilling holes

Up to 185mph now, jeez. The good thing is the faster it intensifies the better because it's hard for the storm to maintain that intensity so it should drop.

Yes there have been strong rain bands and back to calm quickly, as I remember from my days when I lived in Florida.

Only Alan at 190mph was faster.
    Andrew was only 175mph iirc...
That's the same as a very strong EF4 tornado.
    <200mph = EF5

Hoping that bad bitch slices like my golf balls.

I just looked and this is legit. I live in a Texas coastal county and I would be out of the way of this if it were heading my way.

185mph sustained, gusts 220+, 911mb, 18-23ft surge... the peak height on the island is within 10ft of the surge, and that's not accounting for waves or tides....

Andrew's max sustained winds are all guesstimates. All of the instruments were either maxed out or were damaged. The anemometer at the air force base literally was blown away. Those peak numbers for Andrew all come from reanalysis data.

NHC Director Ken Graham said this is the 2nd most powerful Hurricane in recorded meteorological history to hit the Atlantic Basin. The 1934 Hurricane was more powerful in terms of wind speed.
