I'm guessing one would need to be or have experience with some sort of CAD program in order to really utilize a 3D printer... I have a lot of cool ideas for one of these but no way to bring it to life!

it seems like cad stuff isnt really all that hard to start leaning how to use. The trick is to figure out how to design what you want to make it easily printable when you get into more complex stuff. my cousin was helping his dad in the machine stuff and he came up with great designs - problem was it wasn't possible to machine what he drew up.

I used to think the same thing. But I have yet to shut this thing off.. LOL!

Yesterday I made a battery organizer and coin storage for my Wrangler..

That battery organize is really neat, Jeff. I'd love one myself.

I can see how useful a 3D printer could be around the house. I'm always thinking of things I'd love to have and often they just aren't available. It would be awesome to be able to just make them when possible. Cool!

About how long does it take to print the larger more intricate pieces?
Thanks

This full helmet will take around 50-60 hours based on the level of precision I have dialed in. I could cut that down to about 45 hours, and it would be close to the same quality. I just don’t want to spend a long time sanding and cleaning it up.

Cool stuff.

The scanning stuff that was mentioned by Cobra Bob's friend might have been a CMM. If you had one of those, you could replicate almost anything.

I think I see one of these in my very near future.

Is this what you got?
