It’s a Shelby.

I met that owner last night when I saw a GT350 parked by my in-law’s and asked “Who’s Mustang?”

“It’s not a Mustang. It’s a Shelby.”

I couldn’t let it go.

“Yeah, a Shelby Mustang”

“That’s not a Mustang. It’s a Shelby. Don’t call it a Mustang.”

“I know what it is. I had a Boss 302. Also a Mustang.”

I honestly thought the guy was going to lose his shit at this point. His friends were giggling but he didn’t think it was the least bit funny.

So how wrong was I for calling his GT350 a Mustang?

Other Shelby owners - would you have been this offended?

There's no getting around most of the cool cars nowadays are all cheap rental cars at heart. The mustang, camaro, focus, fiesta, civic, golf, charger, challenger, etc etc all have higher end sportier models, but deep down they are still based on budget cars. No denying that.

Wasn't there a thread on here back in the day where there was a big debate on whether it's a "Mustang" or a "Shelby"?
Could've even been back in the s197 generation, I'm not sure.

The land of commies and socialists!
Reminds me of the idiot I met in the parking lot at my old job with a 2001 Z06 fresh off the lot.

During the conversation I referred to the car as a C5. He quickly corrected me and said it's a C6. I said no it's a C5 Z06 and he continued to argue with me. I ended up just laughing at him and walking off. Total dipshit didn't even know what he bought.

I also found it funny that he broke the engine in the way GM told you NOT to as he just took it on a long highway cruise to socal and back. Back then GM specifically told you to vary the speed and load for the first 1k miles and said to avoid prolonged drives holding steady at one speed.

It just reinforces the fact that there are car guys and there are guys who just buy cars.

I wouldn’t have kept at it after making sure I heard him correctly.

Plenty of nut jobs out there who snap at next to nothing.

When speaking with most people I call my GT500 a "blue mustang". Someone at a show once said it wasn't a Shelby, I laughed and said yep you got it.

I don't give a damn if people know what it is or isn't, or what they call it I bought it for my personal enjoyment and I'm the one driving 'er home every night lol

What did Shelby design on the car? What Shelby produced parts came installed on the car? Which Shelby factory was it built in?

There's a better argument to be made that a GT350 is actually an SVT than a 'real' Shelby.

I pretty sure the only 'true' Shelby car came with an Oldsmobile engine.
I have a friend with one of those Series 1 cars. Pretty cool.
