Man, I love the detail you've gone into with this thread. I did not go that in-depth with mine. I hope to see your car in person, I'm in the Petersburg area for the next couple months, and hope to break my PB at VMP.

my curiosity got the best of me and I bought an actual flow meter. It really wasn't that far off from my elementary methods to measure flow. I am impressed with the tool and it makes it really easy to check changes.

On another note im not sure which direction I am going to go with on my intercooler system. I picked up a EMP pump and they are amazing. Check out its static flow!

I swapped the viking DA shocks out for viking coilovers. I never got a chance to take them to the track but I wanted to set my ride height to a specific height.

I saved about 8lbs each side.

I have maybe less than 500 miles on the axles since I last sent them bac to Gforce for the boots popping off. Looks like both sides outer boots popped off again. Not sure exactly how long they have been like that.

I talked to a Gforce tech rep and he told me that it was a known problem so they changed to a new style boot. I am waiting to get them back.

I also ordered new locking axle nuts thanks to Joe's excellent homework.
Genuine Volkswagen Axle Nut WHT-006-779 $10 per nut with free shipping off ebay.

Another side project, changing my switches inside. It will be three switches, I/C pump, H/E fans & line loc. I am waiting on the switches to arrive then I will fit them, cut holes and have the plate powder-coated. pics to follow as it progresses.

And here are the switches I ended up going with. They illuminate green when the accessory is turned on. I purchased them off Amazon, nothing special just figured out what size and color and picked up ones that came with the connectors.

Ha thanks man but I didn't weld the tank. I bought it but it was missing the lid so i bought a new one and had to drill new holes for it. I am unsure who makes it. Justin at J2Fab said it wasn't his.

Excellent build thread! Great info here to learn from.

Thanks alot, I'm trying to keep it up to date all in one place. If only I did this years ago people would easily know how much I change my mind with mods!

What are your engine and trans mods? I'm sure they're extensive.

Thanks man, not really actually. Its just a Ford racing Aluminator short block with ARP 2k studs, Fox lake ported heads and Ford GT cams degree'd to John Mihovetz specs. All the timing component upgrades and a badass custom built aluminum deep sump oil pan from a crazy mad scientist engineer out of California.

How much boost are you running? I assume yours was the winning run on the slip? That was before or after you lit up the rear? You said your hood was from Carlos. Is he still around?

The winning lane was my time. In dire need of a driver mod! ’m currently running 16#’s @ 18* timing. I don’t recall what I was running at that time exactly. I think more boost with less timing.
That pass was before I broke the rear with stock shocks and Steeda sport springs and drag radials. No times on the new setup.

I got the hood from Steve @trueforged. It’s still sitting upstairs. I’ve never even test fitted it. Maybe one day

G-force shipped me back my halfshafts in time so I was able to make it to the track last week. Its hard to tell from the pics and with the boots installed but G-force changed the silver portion inbetween the hub and shafts U-joint that the boots clamp tightens on. They made the clamping surface longer so the clamp gets a better grip and cant slip off as easy. At least thats what it looks like to me.

I also picked up a pair of the locking halfshaft nuts that Joe found. He said he got them from Porsche which I assume they charge more but I got mine from ebay through a VW dealership for $20 shipped for the pair. Genuine Volkswagen Axle Nut part#: WHT-006-779

I also picked up one of the cheap brass shifter bushings to replace my worn out plastic stock piece. They are only like $25 shipped and easy to put in so no big deal. I do think it firmed up my shifts and I have not missed my 2-3 shift since but it could all be placebo...

Unfortunately the track was crowded and I was only able to make 2 passes. My first pass was my shake-out pass so I just rolled out the hole and checked my shift points. I found out that my cars rear ride height was to low and it shredded a groove in my new slicks....

I raised the ride height and hammered in the rear portion of the fender. The upper portion was professionally rolled but this time it wore into the rear portion of the fender on the upper bumper mounting screw. It wore all the bumper plastic from that area.... It sucks but none of it can easily be seen so no biggy.

Anyway It pretty much ruined my brand new slicks.... After looking at them and talking to a few old timers at the track I decided to send it again!

I wanted to make another shake-out pass but with the track being crowded I decided to launch the car. It was a but pukering moment because to date every time I've dumped the clutch i've broken something!

Well I did a proper 2nd gear burnout @ 11.5 psi cold I planned on revving to 5k and flat out dumping it but ended up slightly slipping out the hole.

It felt like a pretty strong pass but soon as I saw my slip i was heart broken. After a mixture of cursing and talking to SOAP (A member here) I realized something was up, my trap speed was way low for my expected power level. I was trapping 132 mph two years ago before I made a bunch of changes. Luckily I data log all my runs! Soap picked out quickly that throttle voltage was low, I was barely over half throttle the entire run and max boost peaked 11psi. I should be running 15-17 psi depending on weather!

IMG_8467

The next day I started looking into it and it was obvious why I never hit peak boost and my throttle voltage was low....

This is where my throttle body was at during WOT!!

44354771612_b45afba6ff_b.jpg
IMG_8490

Its not sicking and I did the throttle cable slack mod years ago so that wasnt it....... drum roll...... I never miss leg day, I bent the damn gas pedal! I actually have a spare because i've done that before. I put the spare in and the throttle opens as it should.

So now I have a few spares and plan to reinforce and mod it so i cant get excited again.

Hopefully I get it done and when it cools of I get it back out to the track and run some noteworthy times!

Thanks for viewing

Nice work Troy. Sucks about the tire, it's always something though.
Subbing for those 10 second runs your going to have here shortly.

Then Future subbing for your 6r80 swap, so you can show me how it's done.lol

I hope to be deep into the 10’s but time will tell.

Lol no way I’m going auto, 6 speed street car!

I would still consider this trip to the track a success, good job man!!!

Thanks a lot, I guess it wasn’t a bad time considering my throttle but that pass is a wash. I need to get back and see how she does.
