IT HAS ARRIVED!

Welcome the newest additions to the Whipple Superchargers lineup: the Gen 5 3.0L Whipple Supercharger kits for the 2003-2004 SVT Cobra and the 2007-2014 Shelby GT500.

We’ve teased it for a few months now while Whipple completed their testing on these kits and the time has come to start releasing them into the wild. But first, let’s learn a little bit about them…

Whipple is always striving to stay on the top of new technology and is constantly improving their products to bring you the best performance, highest horsepower and most efficiency. Their superchargers are released in a generation format, the most recent being the Gen 4 2.9L setups which have been used to set multiple records.

We now arrive at the Gen 5! First introduced in the supercharger for the 2018+ Mustang GTs, the new Gen 5 3.0L has a new rotor design, rotor profile, high pressure housing, massive Crusher inlet and comes stacked with a HUGE 150mm Roval throttle body (nope, that’s not a typo!) mated to a 123mm cold air intake.

But what do all those flashy words mean? More horsepower at less boost levels AND all at a cooler temperature. YES!

Take a look below at the difference in the inlet size alone, compared to the 4.0L Whipple supercharger for the GT500.

That’s a LOT more air moving into those Whipple rotors! The inlet is preceded by a HUGE 150mm Roval throttle body. This throttle body is inspired by the same 150mm throttle body used in the Gen 5 3.0L kits for the Coyote cars but with some tweaks. It is actually the HIGHEST FLOWING throttle body available from Whipple besides the dual-blade Ford GT throttle body. It flows MORE AIR with less restriction. Check out the image below to see the comparison between the new 150mm Roval and the Whipple 170mm elliptical throttle body.

“THIS IS BORING… WE WANT TO SEE SOME RESULTS!”

You got it! There are a couple of blowers out in the world that were used for testing and we have some numbers for you!

We’ll start with the GT500…

Matt Arno installed the Gen 5 3.0L onto his stock bottom end 5.4L GT500 that was previously running a larger 4.0L Whipple and the results are impressive to say the least. The car has a 1320 Junkie Performance ported lower manifold, a set of L&M cams, longtube headers and a TH400 transmission. The car is tuned by Lund Racing and was built by the guys at C&D Auto Tech.

They took it to the track to see if they could beat their previous personal best…

On the left is the timeslip from their previous personal best run when the car was running a 4.0L Whipple Supercharger. Matt clicked off an 8.79 @ 155mph with a 1.278 60’. On the right? Their NEW personal best running the new Gen 5 3.0L Whipple! He was able to run a quick 8.71 @ 157mph with a similar 60’ of 1.259. These runs were made at the SAME boost level, yet the smaller blower went quicker. Efficiency proven. (Congrats, Matt!)

What about the 03-04 Cobra?
Is it just as impressive? We’d say so.

Bryan Crane, a previous Cobra record holder, was lucky enough to be able to test the Gen 5 3.0L on his 2003 Cobra. He previously ran the most recent Gen 4 2.9L Whipple on the car so we were very interested to see the comparisons. He took the car over to Alternative Auto Performance in Michigan to throw it on the rollers.

Take a look at the table above. The new 3.0L made MORE horsepower at the same boost levels as the Gen 4 2.9L with LESS timing, leaving room to go bigger. At just 20psi, the Gen 5 3.0L made over 900rwhp.

Here’s a couple of the dyno graphs to compare:

If you take a look at the lines, you’ll notice that the Gen 5 3.0L peaks at a higher RPM than the Gen 4 2.9L. Also, pointed out in the first dyno, at just under 7k rpms the Gen 5 3.0L makes over 135rwhp and 100rwtq MORE than the 2.9L. Zing.

Bryan, after getting the results, stated “I still can’t believe we’re in the territory of our G4 max effort pulley combo with only a 3.50” / 4lb combo on the G5. It’s absolutely amazing!”

Are you sold yet??
