Your sytem shuts down not only from being bed ridden for so long but it seems to recognize something isn't right with your heart.

You simply can't talk. Maybe a light whisper but nobody can hear you. You have no ass behind your heart to make your voice have any bass or volume. And holy shit, you do not want to cough as that was extremely painful if you did.

Walking...they start by helping you stand and then sit back down. Eventually, you stand with a walker. Then they help you walk with it. I had to use a walker in the shower while the wife scrubbed. Without any strength, everything becomes difficult. Then there is the constipation issue due to the pain meds...I won't go there but the treatment isn't something you'd enjoy.

Most embarrassing....I was by far the youngest one at cardiac rehab. Old ladies were using weights I couldn't pick up. You are that weak. It has taken me two years to get back to where I was.

I figured it was from being so weak. That is quite a tramatic ordeal for the body to endure. I wish you the best from here.

@Tob glad to see you are alive and well...

I can relate to just about everything you said except the ayneurysm part....

Had open heart myself w/ mitral valve replacement on May 22, 2019...you are correct don't cough...hurts like a mf'r...still have some problems coughing but nothing even close to after...walking wasn't an issue for me...was up at 7am the next day taking a few steps(50 ft) and talking...well I was definitely verbal afterwards...the pipeline in my neck was interesting...6 drugs going in at once and laying still for an hr after they pulled it out was fun...the heart stopping had me scared the whole time before I had my surgery...just hope they played "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Kick Start My Heart" while I was under...needless to stay those two of my favorite songs now afterwards...

I wish you well in the future...

Now back to bewbies n arses...clothed or semi-clothed...

@Tob That has been quite the arduous journey. I'm glad you are up and about. The world's more interesting with you in it. A word about the knockouts at Cleveland Clinic: I wonder if the people in charge of hiring intentionally look for knockouts as it might be beneficial to patient recovery...something to look forward to seeing, something to look forward to having around and getting attention from. Kind of like a therapy dog in a way.

Maybe hiring hot nurses helps them to gauge blood circulation in recovering patients. hehe

Were they able to do minimally invasive? Mine was complicated due to the aneurysm and the fact that the aortic root had to be cut out and replaced with a synthetic (dacron) replacement as well as the valve. I've talked to some people that were able to get the valve job done through the side of their rib cage but that is completely different than what I had done. Great to hear you are doing well. Funny you say that about coughing as I still have bouts with it as well.

I may have mentioned this elsewhere but I had the hottest of the hot with me every day in ICU while the others took care of me at night. One of the girls got tangled up in my catheter line, the one that runs from your Johnson to a drain. There is an inflatable ball at the end of the catheter so that it doesn't come out so when she tripped on it it yanked hard but wouldn't come out. I screamed silently and she must have apologized 10 or 15 times. All the other nurses knew about it. So hottie numero uno says to me the one day "I know about Gina tripping and what it did to you and understand it was rather painful. If you'd like I can work with you to get it out." Holy ****, talk about wanting to enjoy something that isn't enjoyable. The wife had gone to get something to eat so I figured now was the time. So there she was, handling my junk in a way only a trained professional nurse goddess could, carefully and skillfully getting the job done. I whispered to her that if I had any cash on hand I'd tip her and we both laughed (me silently).

It isn't easy being back home and back in the hospital a few times since. Every nurse around here is a Helga Von Ratchet, or some fruitcake with a lisp. Man how I miss the nurses at Cleveland Clinic ICU.

I think you're on to something.

Thank you for the well wishes

Nope split wide open like a pig at a bonfire...not once but twice within 4hrs cause I wouldn't stop bleeding... and like you I have a nice 5" to 6” scar running up my chest oh and a pacemaker now cause I am A/V Dissociation.

My nurses weren't smokin hot but they sure the hell not like Nurse Von Ratchet...lol

Ditto, TOB. That was an incredible ordeal you went through, but that God you had the best surgeon, best hospital care, and the best wife to take care of you. I had a hip replaced 5 years ago, and a heart attack 20 years ago that resulted in 2 stents put in two arteries. That all was so minor to what you went through. I pray that you have many times the years you expect. Along the way, you're making each day count.

My girlfriend of a little over a year. She's pretty awesome. Cooks and cleans. Even cleans while I'm out golfing. Does all my shopping. Close to six foot two, with nice bolt ons. Great gal. Oh drives a crew cab 4x4 and is 9 years younger than me. Her pic, she put the 2nd Amendment image on there.

All that and the 2nd Amendment, too? Pal, you might want to be shopping for a ring. Just saying. She sounds like a keeper!

Yeah, she definitely is! She also has a son who just turned 18. He's six foot eight and about 270. He is pretty useful when there's hard work to be done!
