The land of commies and socialists!
Roughly two months ago my younger brother moved in and we instantly started working on his Mini Cooper S as it had what we believed to have a blown head gasket. During the process we found multiple issues with the car and are still in the process of getting it fixed. Since his car is down our mother loaned him our now deceased grandfathers truck to get to and from work.

My brother has been parking the truck at the end of the street that dead ends to a field with houses on each side. A week ago when he came home from work he over heard the neighbors on the side where the truck is parked say "That damn truck parked next to our house again, what are we going to do about it?". A few days later they laid out palm fronds on the street in an attempt to keep him from parking in that spot.

At this point I was waiting for a knock on the door or some other escalation of the issue. Well that happened last night when the cops were called shortly after my brother came home. My brother and I were standing outside talking last night when a sheriff deputy drove past us to the dead end where the truck is parked. He lit up the area with a spot light and proceeded to check the truck and field. After he looked around for a few minutes I could hear the ghetto bird overhead which did a quick orbit around the area and left (probably looking in the field with his FLIR). Just as the helicopter was leaving another deputy showed up, again they both looked at the truck and field then proceeded to talk back and forth.

My brother and I were tempted to walk to the end of the street and talk to them but weren't exactly sure what they were after so we decided to stay out of the situation. After five or so minutes the officers turned their cars around and drove back down our street with the lead car stopping to talk to us and asked if we knew whose truck that was. Shocked I said it was our mothers and on loan to my brother tell his POS Mini was fixed. The deputy then got out of the car and asked us where we lived. I explained to him that I am the homeowner of the house behind where we were standing. He looked kind of puzzled and asked for my drivers license to verify I actually lived there.

The deputy proceeded to tell us that "someone" had made a call claiming that the truck was seen creeping through the neighborhood and was now parked "right here at the end of the street with two guys sitting in it" and it looked suspicious. I actually laughed out loud at this point and told the deputy that it was total BS. We ended up talking the issue over for a few minutes and they left looking slightly annoyed.

Now this is where I got extremely pissed off. I wasn't mad because law enforcement was called but rather the fact that these idiots were willing to fabricate a story to get the sheriff out there and inconvenience them with some BS like this. These guys have much more important things to worry about than a stupid truck parked next to someone house on a public street. Do these morons actually think that the cops were going to do something to a legally parked truck on the side of their house when they know where the person who parks it there lives?

I have been kicking around ideas all day on how to deal with these idiot with some serious and some just flat out funny but I would like to see what some of you guys think I should do. I doubt this situation will just go away but I wont be upset if it just dies.

What do you guys suggest?

Talk to your neighbors like adults. Ask them what their issue is and come to some sort of agreement.

You say the truck is legally parked, do you own the end of the street or the land it's parked in front of? What does your hoa say about extra vehicles? I'm still of the mind vehicles should be parked in the garage or driveway not in front of the neighbors land.

I have considered talking to them but am not exactly sure how I want to approach them. My neighbors don't own the street and neither do I nor is there an HOA in my area.

I think some of you are missing the fact that these people fabricated a story in order to get the sheriff to look at the vehicle. That to me show irrational thought and pure stupidity which complicates the situation in my eyes. Had they simply talked to me or my brother than the situation would be completely different and I would not have bothered to create this thread.

Park the truck in your driveway and you won't have to worry about it

People can be assholes, especially neighbors.

Threads like these make me even more grateful to live on 40 acres...

But to answer your question, move your truck.

Why can't he park in front of your house again?

I'm on the other side of this issue....across the street theres a duplex and they always seem to have more cars than people. It's really annoying when someone else's junk is parked in front of your home. Gotta triple check every time backing out if driveway etc etc.

You don't own the parking rights on a public street in front of your home, but it is common courtesy.

Nobody wants a piece of shit truck parked in front of their house. Move the truck or continue to be the true "asshole neighbor". Sure, it's legal to park there. Just as its legal to do a lot of stupid, annoying things. Move the truck to your driveway.

Why can't you park the truck in your driveway or in front of your house?

I would be pissed if my neighbor continually parked a car in front of my house while there was empty space in their driveway or in front of their house.

I do agree, who ever called the Sheriffs Department and reported false information was a tool, but that has nothing to do with where the truck should be parked.

I find myself on the other side of this semi-regularly. My neighborhood is hilly, my driveway is steep and not particularly big. Since I moved in 11 years ago I've been parking my DD in the exact same spot, and sometimes come home to find a neighbor or a friend/family of a neighbor parked in that spot - usually leaving the spots in front of their own houses open. I don't mind it when someone is having a party or something and parking spots are at a premium, but for the life of me I can't figure out why someone would want to park in front of my house when the street in front of their own is open.

Move out of Commiefornia and into the middle of Idaho where you won't have any neighbors.

Still waiting to see why OP's brother can't park it in front of OP's house, or in the driveway.

So you're parking the truck at the end of a dead-end street in-between two neighbor properties. :dw: Question. Would you like one of your neighbors to park their old truck in front of/next to your house? Not likely. They're pissed and honestly I don't blame them. What they did, though, was wrong. Based on your post, the right thing to do is move the truck to your own house/property. In this case, 2 wrongs don't equal a right.

Ding. Winner. OP should politely approach the neighbors, immediately apologize for not discussing it with them initially, explain the situation is temporary and listen to their concerns and work through the issues in a gentile manner. That is what neighbors do....

They will either be cool or not, but as OP is the one who created the situation, it is on OP to resolve it amicably.

Had OP merely talked to them first, this would not be a situation.

So what. You forced them into this situation by being inconsiderate and they played the game, the onus is on you to discuss the situation with them.
