Been wanting to get my first truck so I wouldn't have to worry about breaking the viper when I take it to the track, and wanted more room for my dogs in the back vs. my fiesta. I originally was looking at getting a Ram rebel ecodiesel but they are discontinuing the ecodiesel after 23 and not even offering it in the Rebel for 23...

First impressions are, MAN new trucks are so nice! Adaptive cruisecontrol works flawlessly, it has an extremely comfortable ride, and the built in google nav works fantastically. The 10 speed and baby duramax are a buttery smooth combo with plenty of power and we averaged just over 25mpg for the 450 mile trip! (Mixed highway at 60-80mph and city lots of stop and go, and driving up and down mountain passes)

Loving this thing so far for being my first truck, my first diesel and the first automatic I’ve ever owned! Now I just need to get a trailer for my viper to see how the baby duramax tows!

Looks good.

Never got to test drive the diesel in the Silverado, but noticed that Ford killed off the 3.0 and Ram was killing off the 3.0 diesel.

Curious to see if Chevy still has long term plans with the 3.0 or will it face a similar fate?

I'd love to drive one of those baby duramax straight 6s.

Great pick up, congrats!

Very nice ride and engine. The new ones are even more impressive with the 305/495. GM is at a cross road here. Only one left with big 8 and no turbo 6

I know Chevy uses the 5.3 in the Tahoe/Suburban lineup too, but it's kind of left behind in todays engine wars. At 355-385 it's not terrible, but it doesn't really get good MPG to offset the lack of power.

The 2.7 4 banger got a nice increase in torque for 2022 but IIRC they don't offer that engine in the SUV lineup yet.

Wonder if their goal is to just rush to EV trucks and don't bother with a v6 turbo.

They all still currently have the V8 option...

Ram has already said the Turbo 6 is replacing the Hemi. Ford yes could be only one left standing with 5.0. The GM 5.3 and 6.2 just don’t make sense together anymore. GM could easily make 500/500 with a turbo 6 like ford and Ram are doing. And that turbo 2.7 is easily a 5.3 replacement based on Torque. And the new diesel is very formidable. Which leaves Nissan and who knows how much longer until they stop selling. Wonder if the GM big SUV refresh will yield a new engine. Or who knows maybe update 6.2. We are now in year 8 going year 9 of the same horsepower and torque output for the 5.3 and 6.2.

No doubt that V8's are soon to be in the past... I don't totally care in trucks. I like my big inline 6 anyway.

Congrats! I love that Sand Dune Metallic paint. Nice looking dash, too. I'm sure it will serve you well.

Nice rig. I would not mind a Silverado with a 6.2. Did you drive them side by side?

Thanks, I did not (on purpose) I know myself to well and if I had a v8 I would go down the rabitt hole of modifying it and would constantly be wanting to hear the v8 haha. Same reason I immediately ruled out the f150 with the 5.0, that thing would have had a blower on it the first week! I knew I wanted the diesel for the mpg, range, range while towing etc.

The new LZ0 engine revision sounds like its going to also be an excellent engine. (steel pistons, some improved oiling, new turbo etc.) That's what I originally wanted to get after I found out Ram was discontinuing their Eco-diesel but dealerships are predicting 6-9+ months out for the LZ0 in the AT4/Trailboss trims and I wanted the truck ASAP.

So any plans on mods ?

you have to pull the entire transmission to change a rubber belt that drives the oil pump off the back of the crankshaft. Other than that great engine...

While certainly not an easy service to perform, with a 15yr/200K change interval, not sure how much of an issue that will actually be for the vast majority of owners.

Gorgeous truck. Anymore interior pics? I am curious to hear your impressions towing the viper as well. How much is the trailer with the viper? I want to buy a truck next year and am so torn between a 1500 and a 2500. The truck would not be a daily at all, but I would tow my hellcat maybe a handful of times a year as well as put my quad in the back, tow the snowmobiles etc.

I am really impressed with the LT trim on the refreshed interior. I sat in a refreshed Sierra 1500 SLE the other day and it was honestly super nice inside and really all you need in a truck.

I haven't purchased the trailer yet, but I will be using mine for similar duties, tow the viper a few times a year, probably a sxs and snowmobiles at some point also. I'm most likely going to go open trailer; futura or timpte aluminum both of with are 1500 or so lbs and the viper is 3400ish. 5kish total so it should be relatively easy to tow with the truck. I want an aluminum enclosed trailer so bad but I just cant justify the price with how expensive they have gotten. Maybe I'll end up with a steel 20-24 v nose but I'm not sure....First time buying a trailer, not sure which direction I'll end up, but I'll let you know how the truck tows!

edit: I'll try to grab some more interior pics when I get a chance
