    What does removing the Clutch Spring do for these cars?

    Makes the clutch engagement way more linear. The clutch spring makes you look like you learned how to drive a stick yesterday....

    Get the VMP stage 4 kit. Intake, Throttle body, Tune and pulley and remover. Makes for some pretty cool skids.

    Steeda makes a reduced pressure spring that's an alternative to the stock spring to keep the factory components in place. 2012 and the earlier models did not come with the spring, nor has provision for it.

    Waste of time and money, no spring required.
    I never minded the stock spring and just calibrated myself. That was stock clutch. With the engine rebuild and new aftermarket clutch I initially hated the feel, remembered the spring and after removal it was like night and day how much better the clutch felt.
    The spring is pointless and as Cat mentioned, previous generations didn't have it.

    Congrats, Nice find!!!! I'm next!! I also owned a Terminator, and you're correct. These s197's are big girls.

    I have been driving a stick shift personally and professionally for over 40 years. When I go to test drive the GT500, I breeze in there like Joe Cool figuring no problem. I killed it 3 times. Never drove a vehicle with a clutch engagement like this.

    I did not remove spring but I can see how anyone would.

    Thanks guys! She’s awesome and yes, the clutch does feel weird. I miss the cable clutch, cable throttle and top loader transmission other than that, she’s an amazing machine. The top end is so smooth yet stupid fast. Cool ride, I’m a fan!

    Lol - Yup. I’ve owned nothing but manuals as my ‘fun cars’ for 40 years. The spring makes engagement non linear and almost non repeatable. It’s got a weird over-center feel that’s hard to make work consistently.

    Removing it takes ten minutes and adds 5% more clutch effort, but best of all - I get my man card back.

    If you want to take it out, if I remember right, just ignore the video that’s got you removing a bunch of connectors and stuff. Just get a set of needle nose pliers and it’s a breeze...

    EXACTLY the things I missed as well. Also thinking a gear is a must - car is ludicrously fast in stock form but doesnt FEEL fast because of the gearing.

    Is this the spring?
    Steeda S197 Ford Mustang Clutch Spring Assist ( 2011 - 2014 5.0L GT BOSS ), 555 7023 - Free Shipping - Steeda Autosports
    I called Steeda asking about it's application for the GT500. After a consult the tech got back on the phone advising not to use this spring as it may eventually damage the slave + Steeda doesn't make another spring for the GT500.
    I got curious & called FRPP Tech. They advised with an aftermarket clutch like Spec/McCleod the pressure plate diaphragm won't allow the pedal to stick to the floor but if the spring assist spring was removed....again they said it could have negative effect on the hydraulic slave. On the stock clutch he advised under bigger power from mods &b high rpm shifts the stock clutch diaphragm could create a sticking issue but not on the stock set up as designed by Ford. CYA Ford :)->).
    I was under the front looking at the pedal box. Thanks to you guys I'd suspect it an easy mod to remove the spring. But lucky for me I've not had a sticking issue to date (McCleod RXT) and I do powershift at high rpms. Torn! But perhaps for me...best to leave it alone.

    Steeda's response makes absolutely no sense to me, but on their website one of the virtues for their spring is the claim "Avoid slave cylinder damage due to removal of stock clutch spring." Funny how this doesn't affect the 07-12 GT500s which never had a spring to begin with, but a sure selling point for a weaker spring. Don't have much faith in FRPP's answer either. It takes the same amount of force to move the piston down the bore of the clutch master to activate the slave. The spring does nothing but assist with movement of the clutch pedal and does not alter anything else in terms of linkage and/or engagement. I think the clutch sticking issue has more to do with revving the engine beyond the factory rev limiters and may well be a coyote issue more so than the GT500 issue.
