Well my first track outing was yesterday in the old stang and netted me a 12.09 at 117. This was in real bad heat at Mason Dixon. The car is currently on 3.31s and a 28' drag radial. Not to bad I don't think for my first time and a crappy track. But my question is this. Should I put a 100 shot on and keep the gears or venture for 3.90s and keep it NA that much longer? The plan is to go nitrous in the very near future, but really want to run mid 11s NA first. Will 3.90s be to much for a 150 shot on 28s?

6100 rpm in 5th with 3.90's and a 28" tire gets you 130mph ...which should be very close to what you will trap with a 150 shot.

3.73's and a 30" tire would get you 130mph@7150rpm in 4th

Your 3.31's will serve you well with a 28" tire putting you at 6800rpm@130mph in 4th

you could go with 3.73's and 2 sets of tires(28" & 30") to maximize n/a and spray. Other than that I would stick with the 3.31's

Manolith is the question really that misleading? Is 3.90s to much gear on 28s with a 100-150 shot?

Yes it is too much.
Either stay with the 3.31's and cross the traps around 6800 rpms w/ 28" tires(assuming 130 trap speed). Or go to 3.73's and hit it around 7700 with the same thing.

Thanks man that's exactly the answer I'm looking for. Looks like I'm keeping the 3.31s and maybe 26s NA and 28s spraying. Thanks 4vftw and badams03.

You should get a slick instead of the drag radials. You will be better off and easier on the car especially if your going nitrous.

So I just purchased the JMS in the classifieds so its gonna be a nitrous car for sure! Looks like a set of E.T. Drags are in my near future. God I hope this stock driveshaft can hold up for a while.
