As everyone knows, using Boss 302/Gen 2 coyote rods is a popular choice for budget bottom end builds for us 4.6 guys. The general consensus is that these rods are good for 700-750 crank horsepower in a 4.6, but there really isn't a database that I have found that has #1: Shown proven, high HP combinations using Coyote rods in a 4.6, and #2: Shown when these rods typically fail in a 4.6. Now that these rods have been out for a while, there has got to be quite a few people running these rods that could spread their knowledge.

If you are using Coyote rods in your 4.6 bottom end or know about someone who is, post up the setup!

I've been sold on them for a bit now. The price is right and durability is good. I know of one fellow that had a 2015 GT with a centrifugal supercharger set up on a stock engine that laid out 880RWHP with 22lbs of boost. That translate to 1030HP at the flywheel. That speaks volumes for the Coyote's rotating assembly. He had to back off due to lifting the heads from the block. Not much later, the crank snout broke at the oil pump, due to the stress from the supercharger.
I have used the rod and crank on my last two builds. The cast block is a Boss 5.0 with a Coyote crank, Boss Coyote rods and Manley 3.7 pistons. The other is a Teksid block, it has DSS pistons, Coyote crank & rods. It's running in my 96 Cougar and yet to be on the dyno.

Yep, I had a machine shop do up 10 of them. I was trying to create a business model. They finished up nicely, just need some buyers.

A little extra stroke, .15 Liter to be exact, combine that with a .020 over bore and you would have a 4.8 liter, and most everyone wants more cubes. They're new, a bit cheaper, Kellogg forged and lighter throws, have I sold you yet?

Would you mind sharing the mods needed to the crank snout? I've gotten a hold of a 10/10 Coyote crank for cheap, and I've figured out the bearings (Coyote with .032 shims on both sides of the #5 bearing cap thrust bearing), but I still have to spec out machining/shortening the crank to get it to work with my 3v oil pump and front cam timing chains and tone ring.

Thanks,
Rob

can you use gen 1,2, or 3 on a cobra 8 bolt crank? and what do you have to do to make em work? What about bearings?

I'd like to know the same, I have a set of Gen 2 rods sitting on the shelf. Would be great if I could use them in my 97 Cobra engine that needs a rebuild.

Hi, I am also going to be using 302 rods for my 3v but I am fairly new to the 3v community not mustangs as a while but 3v. My GT is supercharged on 6lbs can I keep the stock pistons and crank or will those need to be upgraded along with the rods or at least rebalancing on the crank, I will also be running a set of stage 2 comp blower cams. Thanks in advance!
