Oil Separator Question

Just got a lightning truck that has 39,000 miles on it. It does not have the oil separator installed. Is it too late to install one and do I need to do any cleaning of the intercooler before I do? Thanks

Never too late to stop more oil/water going where it can but doesn't have to go.
