I personally have never had a tune shop say I cant stay while they tune any of my cars. There's one shop close to me that said that I have to drop off my car in order to have it tuned. Seems pretty sketchy no? (Was trying to see cause a friend kept saying to me to check this guy out)

Whos the tuner? Might help if others have had experience with tuner.

The only possible legitimate reason for taking that approach is that the tuner is concerned about the coronavirus and wants either one or both of these:

1. Let the car sit in the sun to kill off the virus
2. Doesn't want anyone in the facility to avoid possible infection.

I would ask if he would still have that policy after he's able to get a vaccine shot.

If he says no change to his policy, go elsewhere.

If he says you can stay if that's the case then you have a choice to wait or go elsewhere.

Spidell supercars in Beekman ny. Its not because of covid as I just asked my friend about it and he said he has everyone drop it off. I am currently using pbd but not a fan of the backfiring and popping on decel.

I would just feel that people from the shop are taking the car out and beating on it.

My friend took the approach and said to me that he doesn't know anyone that would want to stick around(WHAT?!?!.)

I'd think they'd be very accustomed to people hanging out while they tuned their car. Of the 3 people I've gone to, every one doesn't care if I stay or leave. If I stay, they seem to like to give me updates in between tweaks and pulls. Hell, I could probably sit in the passenger seat during pulls if I really wanted.

This is how I handle customers when I tune. I would much rather have them be well informed about the before and after. Their expectations are usually much higher than the combination will allow. I like to show them the logs and have them understand the changes
There are some around here that do not allow the customer to stay. It's their business model for various reasons.

Wouldn't change anything. Still need someone to sit in it and make logs and the car still needs to be disinfected.

Many shops let u watch from a TV screen but dont allow anyone in there which is really no different than dropping it off u still have zero input into anything that happens. But id like to see my car actually make the number they say its making.

Go with a remote tuner like Venomous tuning, Lund racing or Palm Beach dyno.

Awesome guys. I dont think im going with them because they were saying I will only get around 630 to the wheels with my set up. (2.4 pulley, 123mm jlt intake, 67mm tb vmp, offroad h pipe with sctx4)
I see people on here all the time around 700 wheel hp with the same set up

I'd have a very hard time having to drop my car off to have it tuned. To me being present for all the pulls and talking with the tuner is part of the experience of building and modifying cars. I love listening to the car on the dyno.

I'd have to pass unless they were highly regarded and the only game in town. I like having things explained to me as to why this or that is being done during the process as I enjoy expanding my knowledge and understanding of cars.

That's not a long way off. I made 643 whp with the same set up through Lund on my GT500.

Interesting. 99% of the tunes I do are drops offs. It allows me to allow ample time for cool down between pulls and get other things done around the shop in between. The next day we also dial in cold start which cant be done the same day.

Don't think Ive had but a handful of customers actually want to stick around. They are more than welcome to and we can do it while they are there if they wish but never had that specifically requested before.
