So I been having prolems with my cobra overheating here lately. I always smell antifreeze though. I've checked my oil and it looks good, no smoke or nothing. Usually it will only get hot when I'm sitting. But last night i passed a few ppl on the highway close 2 my house and I seen it was getting way 2 hot so I pulled over n shut car off....why is it getting hot? Could it be my waterpump?

Check your low and high speed on the fans. My low speed went out and the fan wouldn't come on until the high speed was triggered. By then the car was on the way to overheating and could never cool back off.

Do you have the stock radiator? My 03 GT unit pooped out and I ended up upgrading for a new 03-04 Cobra unit.

Start looking and you'll figure it out.

Yes I believe its stock....

So toss in a 10yr old radiator in the mix. Start looking for the obvious stuff like the fans and then if you don't find it go a little deeper.

If you do end up needing some Ford parts either order them at Tousley or if they are big enough to make shipping a hassle you can negotiate a discount at your local dealership. Either way, don't pay list price.

Not when you first start the car, but def within 10 minutes. You can test the fan by unplugging it and putting 12v to each side. Do a search on how to test it and you can see if maybe your fan is causing you the issue.

Edit: Sounds like maybe you aren't getting your low speed fan.

I am having a similar problem... except my antifreeze was going through the radiator cap. I accidentally let my Cobra run at idle a bit too long out here in 102 degree heat, then it almost over heated. I followed the burping procedure and now my car runs about 20-30 degrees hotter. It used to run at 150-160. Now it runs at about 180, and when I accelarate it will climb... slowly, but it climbs. HELP??

This is the burping procedure I followed. I found it on another thread.

I've been going over thread after thread trying to get air out of my cooling system with no luck. I have access to Ford's tech service so I finally found their reccommended way to burp the system without having their special tool, and here it is word for word. This worked perfectly and now all the air is out, plus it's much easier!!!

1.Check all hose clamps for correct tightness. Make sure the radiator draincock is closed.
1.Remove the coolant bottle cap and fill the degas bottle to the add coolant line.

•Install the cap.
3. CAUTION: Do not fill the cooling system through the reservoir only (coolant will not enter the engine), only the reservoir and the radiator will be filled and engine overheating will occur.

Remove the fill plug in the crossover tube on top of the engine.
1.Using a funnel, add coolant to the crossover port, keeping the level of coolant in the funnel at 1/4 full.
1.Squeeze the 2 large upper cooling system hoses 5 times. Bubbles may appear in the funnel as air exits the system.
1.Start the engine and run for 5 minutes while monitoring the coolant in the funnel.

•A sudden drop in the funnel level indicates the elimination of air in the system.
1.Shut off the engine and let it cool for 10 minutes.
1.Crack open the degas bottle cap enough to allow the coolant level in the funnel to drop to within 1 inch of the bottom of the funnel.

•Tighten the cap.
1.Remove the funnel and install the fill plug in the crossover tube.
1.Add coolant in the degas bottle to the full coolant line.
1.Repeat the fill procedure if necessary.

I dont think 150/160 is even hot enough. 180 is the sweet spot for ect temps imo. Not sure where your problem would be?

When I had Fluidyne radiator in the car, I smelled coolant for several months while driving. Was a real head scratcher. Couldn't find leaks anywhere and looked more into the matter one day when I saw that dummy guage start going to the hot side just a little. Long story short, end up seeing with a flash light that drops of coolant were leaking ever so slightly from the right side of the radiator tank fins. Over time, enough air got in that it finally was on the verge of overheating. Not saying that's your issue, but sometimes you're gonna have to comb through every aspect of the cooling system when its not blatantly obvious where your leak is coming from.

I'd get under there with some paper towels and dry up those lines and see if you can trace where the coolant is coming from. I know its annoying, been through this thing myself too, but I'm confident you'll find it.
