I built mine years ago! 4790k right when it came out. Haven't really touched it since. Did upgrade to a SSD and a 1080 Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
I temporarily set the computers up on the kitchen table when I built them. Actually the Cube PC never left and it still on the kitchen table after 9 months lol! The other computer is in a 300 sf office. The machines run cool even with heavy workloads. I am not sure how they would perform with only a heat sink and fan and without the radiator and liquid cooling though. Liquid cooling is recommended these days for most higher end systems and I just followed a $3500 guide online - which changes obviously every few weeks. Windows all the way. I played with Linux 20+ years ago and checked it out again from time to time. The productivity software is just not there for every day use. Everyone is different and Unix will be better for others. I use my computer for work and the software I need is not available on Linux.
I don't cheap out on things I spend a lot of time with / in. It boggles my mind that some people go cheap with their homes and then get a baller car. You spend more time in the home. So might as well trick it out with the best. Some people go through the effort of renovating the kitchen and then opt for plastic laminate countertops instead of granite. WTF would you do that? Granite all the way! I don't care if it is a couple of grand extra. I spend time in the kitchen and don't want to look at a nasty laminate top!
The PC is in my room on a desk. I have the air in house set to 69F and have the fan on medium. Specs are: OS - Windows 10 Pro Case - NZXT H500 with 4 120mm fans GPU - 5700XT CPU - Ryzen 5 3600X with Wraith cooler RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaw V series 16gb 3200 PU - Corsair CX650M Mobo - Asus Rog strix b350 (got it for $80) Storage - 500gb M.2, 1TB SSD, 2TB HDD I got the mobo from a friend who gave me a deal on it but will upgrade to the X570 ROG crosshair VIII hero on Black Friday.

Hey, so here is a cheap ass fix for your reference card. You will drop temps ALOT. Realistically as long as your staying at or below 85c on your cpu your doing great. Here is my case I use for my 9900k 2080ti combo. Works great and wont break the bank. SilverStone Technology Performance ATX Primera Computer Case White with Blue LED PM01WA-W
Thanks! Unfortunately I’ve already done the washer mod with thermal paste and an undervolt. It dropped about 10-12C which isn’t bad. I ordered some kryonaut thermal paste and I’m gonna see if that does anything.
