Finally completed today, only took almost 4 months! I didn't need to grind anything from the shifter nor the rear plate bottoms. After wallowing 2 holes a smidge I rocked the assy. forward, tightened all 4 bolts, and was done. Although I can't drive the car until an exhaust leak is fixed this weekend, I can tell there is a big reach difference with this mod. Well worth the time, effort, and money.

Thanks. I didn't use allen bolts though, put a lock washer against each plate, and used nylon self lock nuts. Don't want it ever coming loose. ;-)

Any chance you are much closer to the steering wheel than others? Think NASCAR.

You said that you didn't have to grind the bottom of the shifter handle. I'm just curious... is it possible you put the plates on upside down and backwards?

If you look at my pics I have the relieve cut on the plates at the bottom rear of the shifter. If you flip them and turn them 180 degrees they will still work but the shifter will be higher up which increases the throw length a little. Also I had a slight angle backwards on the template to cant the shifter back slightly. If the plates are reversed this angle will actually be facing forward and away from the driver.

Sweet!! Glad you like it. I'm loving mine too!

I must have a different Pro5.0 handle than yours. I had to grind about 1/4" off the bottom of mine.

Maybe I wallowed the holes enough that when I leaned it forward with the bolts loose and then tightened it down it created enough clearence.

I think its because I drew the cad dwg after my test pieces were fabbed. I made the test pieces with Kentucky windage ;-) Then while cadding the template for you guys I made slight changes to increase clearance. Seems I made enough of a change to eliminate the need to grind. Cool. Glad it worked perfect for you.

Great thing about this mod is that it's cheap to make and you can locate the handle exactly where you need it for your physical build and shifting habits. The template I provided happened to be the best location for me.

For you guys that are thinking about doing this mod I have a suggestion. When you make the plates do not drill the holes for the handle. Instead bolt it up and sandwich the handle between the plates without handle holes. Then play around with handle placement before you drill the holes. That way you can get it exactly where you want it.

Also be careful with moving the handle too far in the vertical direction. This increases throw length. Moving it in the horizontal direction will not increase the throw length.

I would recommend using silicone gaskets on the handle to isolate any noise. Better yet, install one of my new PLUS shifter gasket kits. It comes with one PLUS handle gasket but I offer a deal that includes additional handle gaskets. The combination of the 1/16" base gasket plus 1/16" handle gaskets should kill any noise.

If interested, for a limited time I would be willing to throw in three additional handle gaskets at no extra cost. for a total of four handle gaskets.

PM me if anyone is interested so that I can make sure you get the additional handle gaskets. This offer is good until the end of November. :)

Bumping this because I just made mine yesterday and installed them. This is a great little mod that really brings the shifter closer to you. My friend was supposed to make them for me closed his shop down so I did them right here at home.
As Tractionless mentioned, I didn't have to grind any of the shifter either. Took her for a quick test drive and yup, Money! If the weather is decent Monday I'll take it to work with a little more spirited driving.
    Thanks earico
EDIT: I also used locking nuts, and used two M8 fender washers(1 on each bolt) between the base and the brackets due to the fact that the base is a bit thinner than the handle.

You should give it a try. I know that UPR handle is pretty long compared to the Pro 5.0. The longer handle increased your throw. If you do this mod and go back to the Pro 5.0 handle it should be a shorter throw.

I did this with my Tri-Ax. I had to modify the bolt holes but otherwise it fit perfectly. What a difference! I can actually sit relaxed in my seat and hit all the gears now. This rocks.

And my apologies for the old-thread revive but this mod definitely warrants it. Plus I told the OP I would post my results.
