PS3. What kind of cool things are you doing with it?

I have a PS3 on the way with the Walmart $100 gift card deal. Should be here sometime this week, the wife ordered it on the net for Father's day.

I have been reading up on it. The main reason for the purchase is to use as a Blu-Ray player. I just installed a new projector, shooting a 106" image. High-Def DTV looks amazing and a progressive scan DVD image is very impressive at just 480p.

But I am wondering what others are doing with this great machine. I have read about it being used as a music server, movie server, wi-fi. Not too interested in the games, though I'm sure I'll check out Metal Gear. Wondering what people are doing with the computer side of the PS3.

Has anyone upgraded the size of the hard drive? I just got the 40gig as I am on a pretty tight budget.

Bought mine a couple weeks after GTA4 came out for that purpose. Have yet to use the Blu-Ray. Should look good on my 56" LCD

Bought mine to play GTA4, and have probably put less than 10 hours into it. I thought the multiplayer online would be awesome, but after the tutorial, its too complicated. Now its just an expensive upconverting DVD player. I did get Pirates 3 on Blu-Ray and its great on my 720p LCD. I'm waiting for GT5 to come out, plus I'll have the BR player when I move into my own place and get a bigger TV.

Oh yeah, if you are going to use it for music or movie storage, go ahead and upgrade the hard drive. You can buy a 100 GB laptop hard drive for around $100 and it works perfectly in the PS3.

With the PS3 connected to your home network you can stream music and videos to it from a computer with windows media player 11. This works great as I can torrent a movie(legally) and then stream it right to my home theater without any hassle.
If you have any other questions feel free to pm me and I would be happy to answer them.

I too use mine more for media than gaming... but lately thanks to work it's been catching dust.

I just ordered the 80 GB Metal Gear Bundle Waiting for that biatch to come in. I really just wanted it for the BR Player since Watching Standard Def annoys me now on my Hi-Def T.V. Figured Might as well get the gaming system along with the best BR Player that you can purchase :p

I just got mine set up to stream media from my computer to my home theater. I started out getting it set up on wmp11, but ended up using this program:

http://tversity.com/home

Here's a couple of guides from their website to get it goin:

http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/how-to/how-to-stream-any-type-of-video-to-your-playstation-3-046182

I used the first tutorial and it was pretty easy.

I use my XBox 360 to do that, now, although I also own a PS3. I'm wondering, if you stream with a PS3, does it allow you to stream ALL movie formats? The XB0x 360 only allows you to stream certain types of files.

QFT....I have a 1TB Server at my house right now streaming to the 3 playstation3's in my house. I have over 100 movies at the touch of a button..and the list is growing. I just rip all my DVD's into a .vob file and stream it using tversity.
